      Wonderfully Made, uh huh

      http://www.flixya.com/video/134986/_snake_baby_

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God's sight. But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows. (Luke 12:6-7)

Psalm 139:14 - I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

      Explain.
You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.

Snake baby, terrible birth defect, died after an hour, made in His image, fearfully and wonderfully made, He knows the number of hairs on your head = Load of bullshit.

      You're saying that's real?

Now, I don't usually advocate a scientific approach to things but, I'll play devil's advocate and ask...how in blazes could that be real? Humans...snakes...I don't think they can be cross-bred in any way biologically, right?

I thought the same thing when I first saw it, but apparently it was a skin condition. If someone can post a link saying it is fake then I will happily say "thank god!"

So...someone is born with a medical condition, they die after an hour, and we use this to disprove God?

This is part of the larger question, "Why is there suffering in the world", methinks. Would I be right?

Uh, yea it is. Snakes and humans have different numbers of chromosomes!!! The only animal that humans can cross-breed with is sheep. And even then...

yeah, thats a bad birth defect. not a snake baby.

I don't see how this disproves God.

I don't think "made in his image" means "look like him". Maybe had that baby lived, it would have been a caring and compassionate person, thus being made in his image.

i'm no religion pusher, I support people believing in whatever they choose, even if thats nothing. I just think thats a really weak argument for disproving God.

Guys, first, kill this nonsense about snake babies. It's not physically possible to breed with snakes, stop bringing it up.

This is a known and recognized medical condition called harlequin fetus, you can Google it if you want, but be warned that images are disturbing.

Second, as to the TC, please don't run through a Bible, seize a few verses, and throw them out as if they contradict each other. I daresay you know little to nothing about the context of those statements or even Scripture as a whole.

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God's sight. But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows. (Luke 12:6-7)

This statement was taken from the Sermon on the Mount, it is spoken within the context of worrying about material needs. In short, the flowers of the field and the beasts of the air are here one day, then killed the next. Yet they are remembered and provided for. How much more will God remember his children, which are far more valuable than animals. Therefore, do not worry about your material situation, for God will provide.

The verse you chose, in relation to the video you posted, has no correlation whatsoever.

Psalm 139:14 - I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

This too has nothing to do with what you posted. The human body is fearfully and wonderfully made. Whether you disagree with me as to the means by which that design came about, I think we can all agree that it is a marvel.

Now, I know what you intended, which is to try and show that, because birth defects exist, somehow, we are not marvels of engineering.

Such an argument is illogical because Scripture itself provides the explanation for those defects in the Fall, whereby sin and suffering were brought into the world. This is possibly the single most basic teaching of Scripture, please, if you can't make that connection, then you're not even trying to comprehend the arguments.
      Are you dreaming?

      A) No where did I say I was trying to disprove God (not directed at you, but previous posters)

      B) I was raised fundamentalist Christian for 17 years, and I mean went to church 3 times a week, went to every bible camp, memorized over 100 bible verses, know every damn story. Trust me, I know the bible.

      C) Yes, I grabbed those two verses out of context, which I am aware of, but for good reason. Two extremely common phrases by Christians (the ones I have known through my childhood said this constantly) are "God made you in his image, literally" and "God knows every time a sparrow falls and dies, if he cares about a sparrow that much then think about how much he loves you, he knows the exact number of hairs on your head". So the verses didn't match perfectly, but my point remains:

God loved this little girl enough to turn her into a monster and give her one hour to live.

Disprove God? Absolutely not. The attempted rationalizations of "the fall of man" and other such nonsense still shines through.

I prefer to take the more rational stance on it: Human evolution can be cruel, defects and mutations happen = shit happens.

Or, I guess God just works in mysterious ways.

BTW: Thanks for putting up the actual medical information, I couldn't find any info on it.

Or maybe god does just not care? Or not exist. At least to the point the bible says. Or maybe you guys are just fooling yourselves and have to turn to an omnipotent figure for the answer to something like this. I just don't know.

I'm not sure if I made my stance clear, but I'm an atheist, so my stance is God doesn't exist.

Eew, java. I hate java. It is a silly knock-off of C++.

But seriously, Java isn't even a compiled language!

      lmao.

C++ is just the bestest language.

Well, this "God" character is obviously a douche...

No, seriously, how do you know that being a harlequin fetus isn't the most fun, joyful experience any sentient being can ever experience? How dare you judge one of God's creations merely by its vague resemblance to a snake and weird little eyes?

      P.S. I'm totally serious. You don't know.

I think we're wandering from the point somewhat. Have we finished establishing that people and snakes can't mate yet?

I don't know what's worse, that I already knew about harlequin fetuses, or that some people actually think snake-human hybrids are possible.

#1.) Chimpanzees are the closet animals to us.

#2.) I was reffering to the number of chromosomes, not genetic similarity.
