      Boobs and atheism

So Dreamviews is basically the only forum I post in, and for good reason. I also read friendlyatheist.com, which had this post http://friendlyatheist.com/6600/how-...k-to-atheists/

In the comments I weighed in on the conversation (those who can put 2 and 2 together can tell which name I am) and got railed on. So do you guys think I'm out of line?

For those who don't want to read the 40+ comments, the video posted was from gogreen18 about how christians should talk to atheists (satire) and the comments went the way all of the comments on her videos go: about her boobs. One girl gets all up and offended that guys would dare notice Lacy's boobs (even when she purposefully shows cleavage) when Lacy is trying to convey a message. I tried to explain that physical aspects of a person is always the first thing male or females notice about the opposite sex, it's called evolution and human nature.

Anyway, apparently I am a male-chaveaunist pig, (funny my wife doesn't seem to think so)

no, you were completely in your rights to say what you did. Women like that need a nice hardy slap in the face as much as any macho man does. It really irritates me when woman try to flip the whole thing on its back instead of just create an equilibrium.

I didn't read the comments, but yeah I mean... if you don't want people to comment on your boobs, then don't show them. If a guy on TV was trying to talk about something important while having his dick hang out, I'd definitely comment on THAT before anything else.

Nice thread title by the way.

BOOBS!!!! but if she wanted to be taken seriously she would have had a better camera angle instead of one looking down.

I quickly skimmed through that, but had to look away after 30 seconds. The ignorance was overwhelming, and I didn't want to get any on me.

Though I did laugh at how stupid that one woman was. I mean, it's not as if humans have a set of basic underlying instincts that can be overridden by the conscious mind or anything! Oh wait ...

EDIT: posted. It should also be reasonably obvious who I am.

Okay, obviously I need to clarify my statement.

So ladies, when a guy first walks into a room, what’s the first thing you look at? His face and probably his body. It’s called attraction which is a direct product of evolution.

So guys do the same thing. The first time I watched one of Laci’s videos, I noticed she was cute and that she was showing some cleavage. AFTER that detour, which lasted a few seconds, I moved on and listened to her message(s).

I was in no way condoning people’s comments that are creepy and inappropriate; my only point was that we (male and female) notice attraction first as an instinctual aspect of our chemistry. This is not objectifying women, it’s human nature. But I agree that the people making comments about her boobs and completely ignoring what she is saying is not conductive.

I find it ridiculous that women are offended by the fact that men like to look when the women purposely show cleavage.

...But who knows, maybe it isn't as simple as that. Maybe they show cleavage so they can separate the dogs (powerless guys who ogle - I'm sure that's how women see these kind of men) and men who have more going in their life to concern themselves with those woman's particular pair of breasts.....or men who just have good self-control. (the last 2 being attractive male qualities)

BTW, that girl had really nice boobs.
naturals are what we call people who did all the right things accidentally

Soon porn stars will be pissed off that men are wacking off to them.
This was that cult, and the prisoners said it had always existed and always would exist, hidden in distant wastes and dark places all over the world until the time when the great priest Cthulhu, from his dark house in the mighty city of R'lyeh under the waters, should rise and bring the earth again beneath his sway.

      LOL! That was good.

Thanks for the backup Photo; it's amazing how I could instantly tell it was you after one sentence

      Anonnie Mouse Says:

It should be enough that women here are telling you guys that your comments made them feel uncomfortable. All things being equal (which they are not, I assure you) why is that not good enough?
I am feeling a bit sick to my stomach reading the posts where guys are defending their own sexism, as if they are entitled to it regardless of how much discomfort and division it causes. I matter. My opinion matters. How I feel about sexist comments matters, precisely because I am a member of the objectified gender in question. Same goes for the other female commenters here. The way your comments come across to us matters, and there’s really no defending them, honestly.
Why is it not enough to hear a woman say she feels upset, and to just apologize instead of rationalizing your behavior and telling her she has no right to feel that way? Shame, boys, shame.

I am seriously losing it here; what fucking thread are these idiots reading? Photo and I both said the comments were inappropriate, numerous times. But then fucking morons like this guy/girl says that we said them. Ugh. . . This just goes to show that just because you're atheist doesn't mean you're smart.

Logic and rationality is what rules our world. If she doesn't have a rational reason for feeling the way she does..... then F it.

I've just given that thread 20ccs of reason and intelligence.*

Side effects may include being brought back to reality and strong emotional reactions. Warning: may produce strong reactions when combined with idiocy, irrationality, and a lack of reasoning abilities. Batteries not included

EDIT: Made another post pointing out the hypocrisy in her statements, as well as the ignorance and delusion.

I would normally doubt anyone could argue against such overwhelming logic and reason, but we are dealing with idiots here.

Okay ... so some guy said how telling it was that it was only in recent posts we started to say how immature the comments that started this were. But this ignores the fact that I said this in my first post there! And Jeremy clearly spelt out his feelings way before I made my first comment.

      I, mean, what?

I haven't read every single post on that blog but once again it all boils down to the classic problem of internet communication whereby *cue broken record* people hide behind their anonymity and say things they would not say to someone's face. This of course causes all sorts of problems, one of which is to hamper intelligent discussion, another of which is to hurt someone's feelings which whatever way you justify it is simply not cool.

I watched the video link where the woman (Lacy?) talks about the burden of having a large chest and it actually brought a tear to my eye.

Sometimes the best thing to do when you've hurt someone is to just say "I'm sorry", without following it with "but..."

I agree, aorozco. However, I think the issue is not so much about people looking at them, rather it's about people commenting on them. I don't think Lacy is deliberately flaunting hers in the video clip and even if she was I don't see why people can't just think their private thoughts about them instead of posting them.

I am a salsa dancer and happen to have been blessed with a very good figure. However, there is a guy at salsa who has fried his brain with drugs and his verbal and behavioural inhibitions have been severely dampened. He often shouts out inappropriate remarks about people for the whole room to hear and he also sometimes makes obscene gestures and comments during a dance.

One of his many fixations happens to be my breasts. I often think how mortified I would have been if he had been around when I was younger. Thankfully now I am in my thirties and am no longer trying to deal with the self-esteem issues one goes through during youth. I am also much better equipped to give smart retorts to this guy than I would have been ten years ago. Back then I would have cringed and slunk away. Now I give it right back to him! I even stand up for other people when he picks on them
