There are so many ways it could work, so many reasons it should be renounced as a ridiculous idea, and only a few reasons why it could actually work.
I dont believe in it, but it is my favorite optimistic way to view the afterlife.

I beleive
But I respect your opinion
well im not sure about animals or plants but i beleive that people are reborn. and the best proof i have is past-life regression where someone hypnotizes you and you can remember things from past lives
To me reincarnation is just an amusing idea. It can be fun to think about but I really don't believe in it.
One thing I really don't understand about reincarnation is how more life is being born every moment than what we had in the beginning (when life formed). So as life developed and multiplied some living things were born without souls?
yea im not sure about that either. and if i said anything it might go against someones religion or something ...
but still i dunno. you can google it if u wanna find out
Past life regression may be real, but I side with the skeptics. The fact is that in those sessions most people go back to things like WWII or colonial America or Ancient Egypt. The reason I think that is, is because most people know enough about those events to create in their mind a person and things that that person may have seen. When in hypnosis, the brain is open to suggestion so if it is told to see a life that never existed it will make one up.
I believe that past lives may be possible and that if it is, the new lives that didn't exist before would just be starting the way everyone else did. however, I'm not very optimistic that you can actually see a past life.
I don't really believe in reincarnation. If there's a heaven, there's a heaven, but a new life, I doubt it.
I think it's not even remotely possible and my idea of that impossibility has been reinforced and demostrated not only in a classical physics sense but also under the conditions of quantum mechanics. It's been proven impossible for the universe to undergo a series of bounces just by math alone.
it wouldn't be using math alone. math alone can't explain the fact that i can actually look at something, think about it, image what it could do, think about making it better, and then decide not to because I don't feel like it. math is a way to better understand most things, not a way to completely understand everything.
Ditto for me.
I think it's possible, but then again I believe a lot of other more seemingly-absurd or -nonsensical things are possible too. Mostly I like to believe it because the body always dies, but there seems to be something so infinite about a person's soul.
That's why when I die I don't want to be buried in the traditional western way (i.e. embalming, wooden box, concrete surrounding the box, etc.). I want to be buried directly into the ground, with a tree planted on top so as to enhance my chances of living on through something else; or at the very least, so my dead body can fertilize new life.
I have only seen a glimpse of the truth.
I am not capable to grasp that which is beyond.

We can not learn and understand the secrets of life, the universe and existence in one human life-time.
Through reincarnation, we will develop.
When we experience reincarnation, and learn about it, it's partially forgotten.
the only reason that I'm on the skeptic side is that we have no recollection of our past lives. To me if they happened we would have some memory of it because our life now is so vivid. would it be vivid now only for me to forget. then i think that life would be like a hazy dream that i wouldn't remember in the morning (next life). Then you could make the point that we remember are dreams after realising that we can remember them. To that I say that throughout all of man's existance the majority of us haven't realise the hazy dream when we wake up in the morn (next life once more)
It's possible, but not exactly probable to me. I have a stronger faith in my own religion.
I believe that it is as plausible as any other spiritual belief. It is also fascinating to read about. I have done self induced regression but have gotten no where with it. I was regressed by a friend in college but I only got to where I was 5 in this life. I believe there is no *proof* because it is spiritual.
I think braindeath and brain damage poses a problem to reincarnation.
I'm not a believer in reincarnation but just to start an argument:Quote:

couldn't brain damage/death of the brain just be the soul slipping away slowly?
I agree with Doctor but I also kinda don't. Brain damage is just brain damage. It's not until your body gives out when your soul moves on. That's what i beleive anyway
My personal belief is that the body - the brain is a separate entity all together from the "Soul". Kind of like a car and it's driver, our body being the car and our souls being the driver. If our souls are made of energy and energy doesn't ever truly dissipate it just changes then we would not require our bodies to remain in a conscious state of being- just a physical one in the way that we understand. A car needs a driver to go somewhere but the driver doesn't need the car it is just a much more convenient way to get from point A. to point B. I am curious however about the idea that our "energy" could become saturated and diluted out of the body. Say after a few hundred years to the point that we are no longer able to manifest or be conscious and then that would be literally death or a type of soul coma. Diluted like a drop of dye in the ocean, it spreads out, it still exists but it has become much less material. I have never heard of ghosts that are over a few hundred years old- they all seem to be apparitions of much more recent times.
If somehow we could be recycled into new bodies it would make since seeing how it seems to be natures way of recycling life into death into life.
Yeah that's a good way to think of it
Problem is that doesn't fit symptons of brain damage.
Often someone's personality will actively change, as will their memory.
It won't disappear as such, and everything will still in a sense be there, but we will be able to observe the same person changed mentally.
