Religion/ Beliefs as an Accessory? How guilty are you?

I recently read a post that mentioned this slightly, but never really drew attention to that specific part.

If you are religious, or someone you know is, how much of it do they truly follow and practice? How much of it is just a title that they give themselves?

I get a bit bothered when someone WEARING a What Would Jesus Do? Bracelet do something that Jesus PROBABLY wouldn't do... They may talk behind someone's back or offend someone without apology.

How much of religion do you think is used as an accessory to the "person"?

Well, there you go - you're one of the people you hate.

What you're talking about is your own idea of what God is like, which has nothing to do with your religion (assuming you're a Christian, or part of any other large religious group), so you're just being a big hypocrite with this post of yours.

They might just believe that God is there to forgive you when you die, or that he's not there at all and the T-Shirt is just funny.

Think really hard about it before you reply to this.

I'm not talking about my own idea of what God is right now. I'm not a Christian or part of any larger religious organization. I was simply giving an example of what the Christian Jesus and the Christian are, and how they differ.

Of course I may hate myself sometimes, but I'm also not a fan of assumptions about what others believe. Personally, if you call yourself a Christian, (Lutheran, or Protestant, or Baptist, or Catholic,) I would associate anything standard practices of that faith with that person. If you are a non-denominational though, then that person is out of this discussion.

"How much of religion?" or "how many people use religion as an accessory?"

I'm leaning towards believing that anyone who chooses to publicize their religion without being asked is using at least some of it as an accessory. This has nothing to do with religion itself though. It can apply to anything that a person associates with, whether that be a group of people, a genre of music, an ideology, and so on. I always see it as the individual's way of trying to shape themselves into something unique for the sake of being unique, which is in itself an entirely selfish attitude being that other people have to recognize that "uniqueness" in order to satisfy the individual publicizing it. If beliefs are publicized for serious discussion, or music for the sake of having other similar artists suggested, etc, then the purpose is not for self-advertising and stops becoming an accessory. It really depends on how it's used.

i personally do not think anyone who has not done true study of a religion can banter on about how it is wrong. "Don't knock it till you try it" for instance if you have no clue what jesus ever did, than how are you at liberty to discuss what people do or don't do in terms of religion. so let me ask you. "What would jesus do?" YOU ARE RIGHT that he wouldn't murder of steel or lie, but how would you know if he did or didn't, you never read his word and find out. so please, back up your statements instead of assuming you know whats right. you should understand what you are "preaching against" before you can activily say it is wrong.
one day all will make sense, and our dreams will become reality.
