Learning whilst lucid - An ongoing experiment.

The dream world will become a school where knowledge from the world shall be taught.
It is just a matter of time, and the advancment of technology.

Imagine being shown how dinosaurs walked. Not just an impression in some badly drawn book.

You would witness the first steps of Neil Armstrong as he made history.

Medical techniques could be shown without the need for tools, or even live subjects. The cancer cell could be examined in great detail by researchers.

Mental traumas could be more directly treated.

Physics, chemistry, in fact, all subjects could be brought into the dream world, and taught.

The waking time spent on learning will be drasticly reduced.

There is no part of life that will not benifit from guided lucid dreaming.

So I am dedicating this thread to the advancement of learning through dreaming.

My first attempt at getting information into a dream will be with the use of audio books.
I will use an ipod, or similar device to switch on after a two hour period.
The first problem I can forsee is the volume of the speakers.
They have to be set quiet enough not to wake me up, but loud enough to hear in a dream.

Second is to get the right tone of the narrator.
Some voices are very easy to listen to, whilst others can cut right through a person.

Third problem is setting off the audio at the time of dreaming.

If you have any suggestions on what to listen to, or how to improve on any aspect of this thread then please chip in.
Without constructive criticism, the chances of success are not very high

That's not even necessary. Studies have shown that if you are learning something while listening to a particular sound (like a ticking clock) and that same sound is present while you sleep, then you will retain the information better the next day. I have successfully used this to start lucid sleep meditation. I meditate during the day listening to the sound of a Buddhist temple bell, and then set that same sound to play a few times in the middle of the night at various intervals. I have put some thought into trying this with Japanese lessons before bed as well.

I'm not always lucid, but whether I'm awake or asleep I'm always dreaming.

My first goal is to determine when, and how frequently personal dream cycles occur.
Information off the internet would not apply to everyone, so I devised a little way of finding my best time to induce audio feed into my brain.
I have got together a long playlist of my very favourite musical tracks, and put them on an ipod.
Intention is to see which songs filter through to my dream state, whilst I am lucid.
The music may also be a way to trigger lucidity, but I have not confirmed this yet.
Putting dozens of songs back to back would just ruin the effect, as people tend to ignore constant music / sounds.
On that point, I intend to play one song every twenty min's or so.
My problem is filling the 20 min's with silence.
How do I do this on an ipod? Is there an app' that will allow me to acheive the goal ?

It is important to understand how well you retain things in a lucid dream. Like if you studied a math problem over and over would those neurons still strengthen enough to notice a significant difference? Either way I am still going to use my dreams to study haha. It sounds like a cool idea but since all the experiences you have in a LD come from in the brain instead of input from the outside world, it would be hard to determine if, for example, the walking dinosaurs actually walked that way or that is just your brain's interpretation.

You could very easily, with free music editing software, create "silent" tracks of the desired lengths. That's what I did when I first started doing sound based induction.
I'm not always lucid, but whether I'm awake or asleep I'm always dreaming.

An interesting experiment to use music to induce lucid dreaming.
I read all the posts, and congradulate you on your success.
Similar to what I intend to do, but my goal is to learn whilst in a dream, not just to become lucid.
An advantage I have is the ability to recognise a dream without any reality checks. ( Showing off a little there )
Just been into town today, and bought four sets of headphones. Two pairs that go into the ears. One large soft pair. One small Walkman type pair.
The task of putting together an interesting playlist in next on the agenda.
      Back soon

Last night was the first time I had done any practical work on my experiment.
I loaded my sons ipod with dozens of songs that I thought would get through to my dream state.
Falling asleep with music in my ears was quite an unusual experience.
At first I was listening to the songs, then after a few min's I was watching them being performed by the artists.
This is was not dream state, but just before I fell asleep.
Only one song filtered through to my dreams, but it was not the full sound. Only the rythm from the drums could be heard.
In my dream, I realised the ipod must have the wrong music playing, as I did not load any drumming music.
So I decided to wake myself up, slowly.
It was as if the rest of the band started up their instruments up, one, by one. Then I could hear the entire song.
So, tonight I will change the playlist to include some isochronic tones, and see if I can hear them.

With regards to lucidity, I had some very unusual dreams that had no meaning to me at all.
One lucid dream had me attempting to transform my clothing, and fly. But nothing happened at all. Total loss of control. Just a strange robed character saying " You must save Malakai "
The others had no meaning to me
Eastern men dressed in gallibaya playing in the waves. Tide goes out very quickly, then a huge wave wipes everything out
A lady selling bonsai trees from a market trolley.
Filling in a questionaire on how I settled in American west. ( I live in UK, and have never been to the US )

      Back soon

Standard music tracks have no way to get through to the dream world for me, so I switched tactics.
Loading the ipod with isochronic, and binural beats was the next experiment.
I also swapped over to a loose fitting set of earphones, as the in-ear ones were a little uncomfortable.
Much better results this time. I had around six, or seven dreams. None of which were lucid.
Then my wife turned over, and woke me up. She was thirsty, and went into the kitchen for a drink.
I looked at the ipod to reset it, but noticed hardly any time had passed at all.
In fact, I had been asleep for only 22 mins.
A second attempt ended after I woke up, and angrily took the headphones off, and threw them down the bed.
My mind was not getting any rest, as the dreams were all over the place.
Perhaps, shorter versions of the tones would work. So tonight I will be reducing the length of tracks to around 3 min's each.
Also a bigger gap between tracks to give my mind time to settle.

      Back tomorrow

      No progress of any kind.
I have contracted the flu, or something very similar.
Head, throat, chest, all feel like crud.
Nose blocked. muscles aching, mind wandering.
