Research Topic?
Hey Everyone,
I was wondering if all of you would be able to help me out finding a research topic that i may look into for a class i have. The class' goal is to create an experiment, test it out, and show your results at the regional science fair, and from there, if its good enough, it moves on.
Living in Arizona now, Tucson, we have the University of Arizona, near by, which will gladly help out with finding a mentor in a lab and testing the experiment, but i havent got a research topic to begin studying.
Thus i bring it over to you. If there is anything that you would want solved scientifically (within reseaon) please, post it here.
Thanks!

Yay, Science fair! I am a regional judge. One thing that really catches a judges eye is a unique experiment. I've seen countless product comparisons like "Which detergent REALLY does work better" They are kind of boring.
The guy I gave Grand Prize to last year did an experiment on the relationship of the number of turns of wire in an electro magnet to the number of ball bearings it could pick up.
He kept nice graphs and tried in increments of 50 turns, from 50 to about 500.
It was a simple experiment, but he did completely follow the scientific method and had data to back up every step of his experiment.
My daughter took 2nd place in the regionals one year with this experiment:
She had a series of ink blots and showed them to about 50 people ranging from 5 years old to 60 years old. She graded their responses on how imaginative their answers were.
I am thinking about helping my son this year. Magnetic breaking, the relationship between magnet placement and rotor materials used.

Well, i was thinking about going into some Anesthesiology perhaps. the Sleep Lab hasnt contacted us yet, so maybe a study into perception and consciousness.

I guess this is a tell tale sign...
http://web.arizona.edu/~sleep/
the site hasnt been updated in over 6 years :( and i really wanted to do some research in their lab :( :( :(
If all else fails, is there anything i could perhaps do on my own, such as create a new method or something?
I can give you some of my goals in my research if it helps:
- To try to push the importance of Dreaming to the Western World, and I would think, telling someone they could do anything they want with a simple method would sell the idea quite nicely. I mean, i was hooked after reading the Forward from "Lucid Dreaming" from Laberge.
- Aid in the developement in a Lucid Dream Induction method, meant only to give new and inexperienced Oneironauts their first lucid dream. My first came after reading the first few chapters from "Lucid Dreaming" form there, i googled LD-ing, found this site, and have been here ever since.
- Gain a deeper knowledge of human consciousness and perception.
If you have any ideas, ANYTHING can help at this point. The sooner i get an idea, the sooner i can get an internship at a lab or begin my independent research.

Have you followed Placebo's "detecting REM" thread and my subsequent thread with an application of GSR into REM?
I think there is a ton of significant research to be done there...

Thanks, ill check into that
