rvdc is one of the ⚘Greatest⚘Psidreamer's ever
Dr Robert Leon Van De Castle
begins talking about dreams at the (15:33) point.
(15:33 to17:37) 2 minutes 4 seconds
(15:33)
Interviewer:
Apart from Parapsychology
you are also very well known for your ⚘dream work⚘.
And I'm wondering at what point did the dreamwork begin
(...)
(16:00)
rvdc:
Well, at first is wasn't the logical extention.
I had the interest in Parapsychology.
I was now out at Denver in a (...) teaching position.
Once I graduated
I could teach anything about clinical "psychology".
And so I asked the students,
"what would you like" and they said 'Dreams',
I said, "jees, I dont know anything about dreams"
I really had no exposure to dreams
in my graduate course back at Chaplehill.
A little bit about Freud.
They said "No, we really want to do Dreams"
I said
"I dont know anything about dreams,
you're not hearing me".
They said " No, but we still want to do dreams"
I said:
"Ok, here's the deal
(16:36)
You read-up every week about dreams
and tell me what you learned
and
I will read-up every week about dreams
and tell you what I learned"
Interviewer:
So it was on-the-job training.
Had there been a lot of work done on dreams prior to ...
rvdc:
No, no there was a little bit of work done in 1953.
There was a big breakthrough study done in Chicago
... they put electrodes on the head
and could tell when a person was having a REM period
and when they were dreaming.
"IT" was just begining to be assimulated into mainstream...
Interviewer:
So, Dreamwork was still in its infancy.
rvdc:
Yeah, at that point is was all quite new.
(17:00)
So then I had a chance to,
I was teaching these courses on Personality Testing
So, I thought I could tell pretty much what
the personality testing was saying about people
but I didn't know about dreams.
(17:17)
So now I would give students Personality Tests
and also collect dreams from them.
I found as I went through, I found
I was getting more from the "Dreams"
than I was getting ftom the Personality Testing.
(17:27)
Then there was the chance to work with ⚘Calvin Hall⚘
at that time he (Calvin Hall) was considered
the leading Dream Researcher in the country (USA)
More later DV friends
Here is the (35:55) clip made in 2001
thirteen years befor rvdc died suddenly
from a catastrophic brain stem stroke aged 86
