Online survey on sleep experiences (PhD research)

Hi all!

I'm a PhD student in Philosophy at the University of Glasgow and for my thesis I'm investigating conscious sleep experiences that depart from usual dreams. In particular, I'm looking at the possibility of experiencing pure awareness or states of consciousness without ordinary content during sleep. I'm looking for participants that might had experienced these sort of experiences recently, such as those attained from the practice of dream yoga, or by having a lucid dream in the void. I'm also interested in knowing more from those who are aware while falling asleep or are aware while asleep (with the absence of imagery).

The study consists of two stages, an online survey and one-to-one interviews. The online survey is open to everyone over 18, regardless if you have had these sort of experiences. The survey is quick to answer and covers different aspects of your sleep consciousness. For the second stage, the interviews, I will select participants that describe the sort of experiences I'm interested in and that express their interest in participant in the interview phase (totally voluntary).

I completed the survey. What an interesting thing to study for your doctorate. I studied pharmacy, which while I find it interesting is not nearly as neat as this stuff. I gave the email address starting with holding... I am not very good about faithfully checking that email and it gets tons of spam. I think I am one you will choose to include in your interviews, so if you try to make contact and I do not respond feel free to contact me here. Are you interested in, or have considered, experiences relating to (what feels like) completely dreamless sleep?

It might fall outside the scope of what your study is looking at, I don't know.

Another side-effect is that my sleep becomes literally... dreamless. It's not that I don't remember my dreaming, it's that it doesn't happen. And I know I'm not dreaming either because I do check when this happens. One of the very first things I tend to do with these waking periods because it's such a bizarre experience.
