EEG and lucid dreaming

If anyone knows of places to access an EEG, I would be extremely greatful. I would like to moniter exactly how brainwave patterns change, especially when you would come upon a lucid dream.

This way I would be able to tell how long my dream cycles would last, and relate that to how long I think the dream actually felt. In a lucid dream, you reach a certain level of consciousness, so I think it would be usefull in determining how they're different from average dreams (in terms of brainwaves).

Your thoughts?

thier are simpler ways of measuring how long your dreams last. If you can monitor your eye movements, as LaBerge talks about in 'Exploring The world Of Lucid Dreaming" then you can do just this. This was his method of coming to the conclusion that LD time is almost the same as real time and his method of proving LD's actually exist.

I only know one person with his own EEG machine and he lives in the Netherlands :(

I've had two EEGs in my life, but both machines, obviously, were owned by the National Health Service. If you want access to a free EEG, get a flight to the UK (where medical treatment is free, with or without citizenship) , say you have a terrible sleep disorder, and they will admit you to one of the several sleep labs in the UK where you will get a room. Get some kip and then they'll analyse a nice wad of data for you.

Or you could just not bother...

It had been great if one could record once brain pattern during LDs. and listen to the pattern during sleep and then become lucid. Kind of brainwave sync. Or just instal a chip in the head, with a remote controll, where you push the lucid button to become lucid instantious

And oh CRAP! I just remembered that there's a woman that lives in my building who works at a lab. And guess how ironic this is? Its a lab where they do sleep testing. Maybe i should just ask her some questions and try to accomplish this goal here :biggrin:

An EEg from a ld differs from a normal dream EEG by having slightly increased beta waves.
More interesting is a pet scan from a lucid dream compared to a normal dream.
It seems the pre frontal and frontal cortex has a lot to do with becoming lucid.
found that in a modern book about consciousness.

The cortex is your conscious area of the brain, and the frontal and pre-frontal cortex are the most evolved areas thereof

The Lucidity institute asks you when you become a member if you would be willing to partake in any expirements. Maybe they would have some idea where you could get acces to a (EEG) or electroencephalographic machine.
I am sure there has to be more research going on other than the Lucidity Institute on dreaming. So maybe there could be somewhere near you that is conducting expirements.
