      Dream Partners

Okay. Here's something I think would benefit everyone on DV, especially those hoping to increase their recall abilties. First, a testimony. When I was in middle school, my recall was awesome, and in 8th grade I could recall all of the dreams I'd had for one main reason: a friend. She and I were inseperable and one of our common interests was in dreams. So, it wasn't unusual for us to sit together at lunch and talk about what our latest dream has been. I was thinking today and I figured that our conversations kind of kept me accountable for remembering my dreams. So I figured this element of accountability would help a lot of people remember their dreams.

Here's what I propose: everyone who feels confortable doing so should find a "Dream Partner" with whom they can share their dreams with. They can keep writing their dreams down if their recall abilities are struggling, but I'm hoping that with practice a person will be able to consciously recollect what happened during their nightly reveries. I'll try drawing up a formal experiment and try to present it to the people of DV, but for now I'm just leaving this open to discussion. What do you think?

Good idea. The dream journal forum is kind of like having many dream partners. That is assuming that people actually read them... I do at least! For the most part. Dream partners wouldn't need to be 2 people exclusively, but could be an entire group. Maybe just encouraging people to read and keep dream journals online could be beneficial.

I think the idea is kind of cool.
However I fear that I would be cast from the forum if I were to share my dreams with the community. Aspecially you Amethyst Star

      Just razzing you.

I really do think it could help!

REALLY good idea. Esp for those CT who are too lazy to keep a journal.

See, you don't really have to keep a journal. The theory behind this is that people will be encouraged to remember their dreams without having to write them down, thereby increasing their recall. I don't know how many ppl read the dream journals. Fewer of them make comments. So, if you spoke to someone, you'd know you were getting a reaction of some sort which may make the experience of recalling dreams less pointless at times. Also, your partner could help you look for possible dream-signs that you may not pick up on.

That's just my take on it.

The more you say the better it sounds.

How would this be brought about?
      Open to the entire forum?
Pic based on capadabilty Basically similar to the adoption process.
Or do you have somthing different in mind?

Well, I did this with a person IRL who I saw every day. The fact that your partner could see you and go over to you at any time is, in my opinion, a good motivator to remember your dreams. I suppose you could have a DP (he he, new temporary acronym) here at DV that you could message every day, but it's be just like typing up your DJ. The hardest part, of course, would be finding someone IRL who'd be willing to share their dreams and listen to someone else recount theirs but there are ppl out there.

Thats true. You don't know who is reading it, and if you should care

i think that'd help a lot. im already enthusiastic about dreaming, but if i had a person IRL who expressed equal interest in dreaming as i do, i would throw a party. seriously, my own interest enough has really aided my recall. shared interest would probably make more of it. i tend to talk to a lot of people about it, but their interest levels are low (that doesnt stop me though). even finding DV (<--insert shameless plug here) and reading posts on the subject has boosted my recall, and given me ways to do more with it.

Well it is not like anyone is going to be put out if they are a willing participant.
I say talk to ice and with his go ahead ask for volunteers.
Maybe they could PM you Amethyst Star and you could post a list of volunteers. Match making in a sense.

I suppose that could work out. I mean, DV is pretty well known for match making... *ahem*

But I could start asking people if they would be interested in something like this. How do you think the "match-making" would work? Pair up people on the same level, or low recall to medium/high recall?

I guess the compatabilty part would be hard to figure out without a lot of work.
O.K. Now all you have to do is fill out this 45 page questionere and we will match you up with the perfect partner.

I think that the core purpose of this was like you said, to help with dream recall. So no matter who you are pared up with the accountabilty aspect would still be there. Sound easy on paper aaah?

Amethyst Star, first off, awesome idea. My question is do you want the people in this experiment to try and remember their dreams w/o writing them down and the only thing to drive them to remember their dreams would be telling them to their partner(s) or do you mean that you want the people to write the dreams down, then share them with their partner(s)? (Sorry, my question sounds confusing even to me )

It'd be open to the people who are participating. Those who have a lot of trouble with recall could start out with a journal until they want to try to go without one. Those who have moderate or good recall skills or those who don't need them could go without. I should come up with some questions for people, in case this idea gets off of the ground.

I recon this is a great idea. Maybe we should have a dream partner system like we do the adoption system?

....... Yeah awesome idea. that actually sounds really possible, what you said

"in 8th grade I could recall all of the dreams I'd had for one main reason: a friend. She and I were inseperable and one of our common interests was in dreams. So, it wasn't unusual for us to sit together at lunch and talk about what our latest dream has been"

because thats what youd think about a lot. remembering your dream so you can share it with your dream partner. not just to remember it. It gives you a motive, something to look forward to. so i say yes!

I have to say here, that every since starting an online dream journal here at dream views. My recall has more than doubled. I have been able recall anywhere from six to ten vivid dreams within a six hour period. though I don't write them all here.

I think there is a simple explanation for it. One it's more fun writing here, than in a note book. So I enjoy writing my dreams more which makes me remember more. And also, when I am writing my dreams here, I feel like I am sharing them with somebody, which I am. So for that reason, I am able to recall a lot more. I know at least one person reads my journal. So many thanks to that person, for helping with my recall in that way.

So I believe that your theory is correct

I like to record them because I love my dreams, and with them recorded, I am sure to be able to remember them long into the future.

I regret being to lazy to write my dreams earlier in life. Especially all the lucid ones I never wrote down. When I was a kid I didn't take it into account, that memories fade over time.

well the concept sounds really nice if the person is fine and a good friend in other aspects as well

but a "only for dream-talk" friend doesn't appeal much to my heart

however, I'd love to have someone who i would share my dreams with, especially lucidly

I think this is a really good idea. I have good recall when I'm actually practicing but I go on and off. If I had a partner to help me keep with it I would benefit a lot. If anyone is interested feel free to send me a message. Preferably same age range and time zone (EST) but not necessary. Look forward to hearing from you!
