Possible Health Benefits of Psilocybin Mushrooms

The title of that video is a little sensationalist, while evidence is beginning to mount that magic mushrooms can aid cell regrowth it's still too early in the research to draw any conclusions. The research does show that mushrooms can help with PTSD recovery. As someone who's done a shit ton of mushrooms I would agree with that assessment, they are very good for working through all sorts of emotional stress and pain. I can only laugh when people say you shouldn't do hallucinogens unless you're in a very good place in your life. I don't believe this naive perspective is shared by many in the explorer community though I did have a conversation with someone of that opinion recently so I figure I might as well share. But I suppose the discussion of when someone should do shrooms would belong in IS.

The researchers hope to find shrooms can be utilized to increase memory and solve an assortment of neurological disorders. I don't share this opinion, I believe that it'd be great for PTSD, as well as therapy in general, and it may even be used to solve addiction and an assortment of psychological disorders but I'm skeptical that it promotes neurogenesis to the extent that it could help people with dementia. Like I said though, they're still in a very early stage of research and the results may be surprising.

I agree that you don't necessarily need to be in a good place in your life when doing shrooms, though I find it preferable to at least be in a positive state of mind at the time of using them. As for the psychological and health benefits of psilocybin, I can't vouch for any of the long term effects, but I find it to be quite therapeutic in the short-term. Personally, I am never more at peace with the world and myself than when coming down from a good mushroom trip. I would love to see more scientific data on specific benefits, however, and I hope that a lot more research will be conducted in that area.

The worst trip I ever did was dropping some LSD when I was coming down off a magic mushroom trip. It was bloody good acid too, my friend couldn't talk at a burger bar counter and he spilt most of our coffees when he reached the door of the burger bar where I was waiting. I was ok though as I was doing a lot of hallucinogens at the time and had a good tolerance. That trip was my second to last as it was very unpleasant emotionally and mentally.

Why's it always gotta be the health benefits of shrooms or weed with these threads? Never some benign compound like resveratrol or something. Shrooms aren't harmful, we get it already.

Because, unfortunately, that is what it'll take to convince most people it shouldn't be illegal.

I doubt any of those people are the people who frequent this subforum, though.

That is very true. It just becomes the default position, I guess.
