They're shutting down the shuttle program, not the whole space program. We'll be working on different means and vehicles for deeper space exploration, primarily through commercial companies like Boeing and SpaceX.

...oh.
... :)
I was seriously starting to doubt mankind's hope for the future.
When we stop trying to explore space, that's when you'll know that we are an endangered species.
Ah, ok. Could you see it from your house again?
Lol sloth. I thought the same. It's apparently because the shuttle is too expensive. Even though it was built to be cheap, as it's re-usable.
They're gonna have a new one by 2016 that article says.
EDIT: Sniped like a mutha fucka
I saw it live. Never actually watched one before. Seemed like watching the official opening to the decline of the USA.
Spent some time watching the Space Station live feed... that is awesome.
First person on Mars, Russian or Chinese?
Nobody on the planet has any clue...
We could of course be ridiculously optimistic and suggest a Russian/Chinese/USA/European collaboration.
Nah, that'll be me man.
Seriously though, that sad thing is we will define the person by nationality. Even when we've reached another planet. Instead of just saying "Earthlings have reached Mars".
Well it's not like those damn Bolivians pitched in!!
