The eventuality is that with the advancement of technology, we will start to merge with it. Just look at pacemakers etc.. The forever prevalent greed for power is going to result in some individuals wanting to become as artificial as possible because superhuman strength etc. would appear godly. Kind of makes sense too because their materialistic thoughts would in actuality be manifesting into reality and consume them. Long term-wise, the species would probably break off into three branches, which it would kind of seem like evolution. One branch being fanatic about organics, one branch being fanatic about inorganics, and one seeing an equilibrium. Basically, ideologies.
Personally, I prefer an equilibrium, which the idea of our species becoming completely inorganic is a nightmare because I feel that is extinction. Trans-humanism is partially responsible for my pursuit of a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics. Yes, I'm rather ambitious, which I find all three degrees compliment each other rather nicely.
