It means that they used a quantum computer to simulate the behaviour of electrons around a hydrogen molecule. As the article says, calculating power needed grows exponentially in a quantum system, in this case with each added electron. The good thing is that the calculating power of a quantum computer also grows exponentially with each qbit. A hydrogen molecule only has 2 so they only needed a 2 qbit comp. The article talks about the experiment and then about the quantum computers in general.
So does it mean that a computer can play games by itself? Well they can do it now, but yes it means that and things much more useful than that... think about all the things you could simulate/calculate in science, or if you like games that much, you could have super realistic games or super smart AI. But as I said, if there is anything that's most needed for us to progress as a civilization in science or otherwise, it's definitely information technology and quantum computers would be pretty cool in that aspect, no?
I never really understood the concept of qbits. I mean yes, a qbit can either me 0, 1 or both, but where does that get us? How is it practical? I don't quite understand that.
