      Ganzfield telepathy experiments

"No doubt you would far prefer that I should hold fast to a moderate theism, and turn relentlessly against anything occult. But I am not concerned to seek any one's favor, and I must suggest to you that you should think more kindly of the objective possibility of thought-transference and therefore also of telepathy. - Sigmund Freud

The following is an excerpt from the Beginning of Upton Sinclairs' Mental Radio, a foreword by Albert Einstein.(The book is about Sinclairs wife who drew sketches that she perceived from someone else)1928

I have read the book of Upton Sinclair with great interest and am convinced that the same deserves the most earnest consideration, not only of the laity, but also of the psychologists by profession. The results of the telepathic experiments carefully and plainly set forth in this book stand surely far beyond those which a nature investigator holds to be thinkable. On the other hand, it is out of the question in the case of conscientious an observer and writer as Upton Sinclair that he is carrying on a conscious deception of the reading world; his good faith and dependability are not to be doubted - Albert Einstein

Next I'll mention something important. The comparison to these sciences and the "normal" sciences.

For instance the Aspirin study conducted that has shown us that it is useful in reducing the risk of heart attacks.
      Through the use of meta-analysis.

Their were 25 studies. 5 out of the 25 studies rejected chance with a 99 percent confidence. Considered individually 80% of the studies are failures. But through the use of meta-analysis, that is combining all the studies the overall results show something different. That in fact their is a visible difference between those not taking aspirin and those who do.

The same can be said for evidence of psi.

The ganzfield telepathy experiments, and the continuation auto-ganzfeld show us the same kind of data.

For the Ganzfeld their are 762 sessions split between 25 individual studies. And the overall hit rate was 37% thus 63% of the sessions are failures. The hit rate corresponds to odds against chance of about a trillion to one. 14 out of 25 were not individually successful. When you use the same kind of meta-analysis you will find out that their is a significant event happening.

Too put it in simpler terms. The magnitude of the aspirin effect is small, taking it only reduces the probability of a heart attack by 0.8%. That effect is about ten times smaller than the psi ganzfeld effect found from the 1985 meta-analysis.
This was that cult, and the prisoners said it had always existed and always would exist, hidden in distant wastes and dark places all over the world until the time when the great priest Cthulhu, from his dark house in the mighty city of R'lyeh under the waters, should rise and bring the earth again beneath his sway.

What exactly did you want with this thread? You didn't really give any information at all about what these experiments investigated, except "psi".

      What did I want?

      Someone has an attitude.

Ganzfeld (“total field”) is the most popular extrasensory perception (ESP) experiment undertaken by parapsychologists. The experiment is carried out to study an individual’s ESP levels.

During the tests the subjects are deprived of their senses by lying on a couch or mattress, wearing halves of ping-pong balls over their eyes while white noise plays in earphones. During this state of deprivation, a sender attempts to psychically send a randomly select target image which is usually a video clip. Later the subject is asked to choose a clip from a selection. By chance the average subject should guess the right target 25% of the time but Edinburgh’s Koestler Parapsychological Unit often achieves 33%.

Ganzfeld could be the closest experiment to prove that ESP or PSI really exists. Because of this, Ganzfeld experiments are the most carefully conducted and scrutinized of all ESP experiments. Yet after decades of research, results have not been produced that will convince scientists that ESP does exist.
