yeah its cool. Apparrently if you multiply the ones and zeros the answer still works. Its even easier too, because you're only doing ones and zeros. You just have to carry it to the next column if it's two.

I think what Hate meant was that you can't multiply 532 and 65, even though you can multiply 1000010100 and 1000001, since 532 and 65 doesn't exist in binary.Quote:

Isn't that obvious anyway? I know you can't multiply "532" and "65" in binary. That's like multiplying "æ®}" and "°µ§" in base ten.
That might be obvious but the point is that you're multiplying 532 and 65 as that's what stands in the topic. You don't just take the answer and convert it to a different system because then it's not 532*65 in that system anymore :wink:

Actually I didn't. If I'd just take the answer and convert it to octal and hexadecimal it'd give me the following answers: 34580 = 8714 (HEX) and 103424 (OCT). I don't convert the numbers you need for the calculation. I turn my TI-86 into hexadecimal or octal mode, input "532*65" and press 'enter'. If I try to do that in binary mode I get "error 08 number base" because binary doesn't support numbers apart from 1 and 0.Quote:

I agree i can't actually use the same symbols, as you did. I can see that you kept the symbols consistent to the title of the thread, when i thought you were keeping the values consistent.
When i read your post i interpreted the left side of the equals to still be in decimal, because i had thought if you were to change it all, you would've written 532*65 differently. I assumed that your answer was equal to 34580. I didn't check the answer, and i cant read hexidecimal or octal. I hadn't realised until now that we had done different things. So, when i posted, i kept the left side in decimal, as i thought you had done the same. :D
For the sake of it:
DEC :532*65=34580
HEX: 214*41=8714
OCT: 1024*101=103424
BIN: 1000010100*1000001=1000011100010100
