Thread: Christopher columbus

Happy Columbus Day!

YAY whoooo a day out of school!! Wait, wait I mean a day to revel in the life of the great explorer, Christopher Columbus, but what is it about this man that we find so exciting? Is it his extreme ability to misread map's or was it his very male behavior of not asking the passing Viking ships direction's to India? I'm not sure I even believe in Christopher Columbus. I've suffered too many dead tooth fairy's and Santa Clause's on a vacation to treat this man as a patron Saint as the rest of the American population seems to do.
Should I throw my faith into this man? In fact I believe this man was insane. He arrived in his "India" and saw not one cabdriver. What did he suspect when he landed on the white sandy beaches and could find no one to take him to central park? He had to be a creative genius thought to come up with such a compelling name for the Native Americans, the Indians. If you had a chance to name an entire culture why in the world your you name them after there country (not to mention once again, the WRONG one) , If I had such a chance to label a society I would call them something intriguing such as .....The Red Sox's. Okay maybe I am not the person to fault his name calling.
Why does he get a day though? In all actuality he did NOTHING for the America's he just sailed a leaky ship over the ocean top the wrong place. What we need is a Queen Isabella Day she was the one who allowed him to go in this misadventure. In commemoration of this under appreciated Queen I say we have a parade in her honor we'll banners and tinsel and a oranges, yes orange, Queen Isabella was famous for her collection of citrus fruits that looked like famous political figures. Her orange that looked like King Louis the 14th was well known throughout the land.
In closing I realize I come off sounding bitter towards Columbus but I just think he is taking credit for something he didn't really do. I also think that someone else would have discovered the New World if Chris didn't get permission from the queen. That's all I have to say on the matter. Good-Bye, Good Life and as always HAPPY QUEEN ISABELLA DAY!
