Do You Recognize The Japanese Word?

Write 2 Japanese words you know without looking them up. If the next person that comes by knows at least one than they can write 2 more words for someone else to translate. Also, it has to be in romaji and don't put anything you think would make the game stuck.

      1.Dorobo
      2.Kuma

Oh, and ill tell you if your guess is wrong.

I would guess that "aosora" is "blue sky", right?
At least that would make sense based on "ao" + "sora" = "blueness" + "sky".

"Nakama" means "member" or "companion" - something like that.
I recognize that word from Final Fantasy 2 for the Famicom.

      "Kazoku" means "family member".

      Here are my words.

      1. Nomimono
      2. Hoshi

      I like Japanese.

Yeah you are basically right about "nomimono" - it means "drink" or "beverage".
You can compare it with the word "tabemono", which is "food".
"Tabe" and "nomi" are noun versions of the verbs "taberu" and "nomu", which mean "to eat" and "to drink", and "mono" means "object", "matter" etc.

"Hoshi" in this case is "star", though - I believe you are thinking of "hoshii", which is an adjective and means "desired" or "wanted", so you were sort of right.
You didn't really make a wrong guess, you just thought it was another word and you were on the right track on that one.

      Anyway, it's your turn again.

: 3 Its great to know there are people here who are interested in the japanese language too. Thanks for the explanation. I finally understand how to say food and drink.(beverage) I knew what nomu meant and thought mono meant thing so thats why I guessed it that way.

Yeah I did get mixed up. xD My bad. Theres was also something about hoshi though that made me think of those moments when anime characters wished for something. The word hope also came to mind.

Yeah, Japanese words are often constructed out of logical Kanji combinations.
One pretty funny example is the word for "volcano", which is "kazan", and the Kanji characters for that word form the meaning "fire-mountain".
      That's awesome.

"Kutsu" means "shoe", and I am pretty sure that "tegami" is "letter" (as in, written letter to somebody etc).
Actually, "tegami" is another "compound word", from the words "te-kami" ("hand-paper"), as in "paper written by hand".

      My next two words:

      1. Tsuki
      2. Kagami

Haha, nice to hear that you like Japanese so much, it's really fun to learn.

I know that "jidousha" means "car" - in fact, this is yet another cool compound word, from "ji-dou-sha" = "self-movement-vehicle".
You can see the same "ji-" in the word "jibun", which means "oneself".

I am not sure about "sakebitai", though - I would guess that it has something to do with alcohol, but I am not sure about the rest.

      More words:

      1. Ressha
      2. Kawa

Hey yeah, so "sakebitai" in this case is the stem "sakebi" followed by the "-tai" conjugation - in that case it would mean "want to shout", because adding "-tai" after the stem of a verb is like adding "want to" before a verb in English.
I got so hung up on "sake" that I overlooked that alternative. xD

"Ressha" is the word for "train".
I am not sure what it is that makes that word different from "densha", which also means "train", but since the word "densha" contains a kanji character for "electricity" I would guess that "ressha" is an ordinary train whereas "densha" is an electric train - sounds logical enough to me.

You were right on "kawa", that indeed means "river".

You got "kawa" right, so it's your turn.

Sorry about that. I should have mentioned it was conjugated. But your right. It does mean I want to shout. ^w^ Ressha, I haven't heard that word before I think but you could be right about its meaning.

I believe that "mimi" is "ear", right?
I am fairly sure that it has got something to do with hearing --- yeah, probably "ear".

"Fuku" is definitely "clothes", I have seen that word so many times in Final Fantasy games that it has become ingrained in my mind.
Actually, I believe that it can mean "good fortune" or something like that as well, but "clothes" is probably the more expected translation.

I do know that "kaze" is "wind".
Also, I am fairly sure that "taisetsu" means "precious", right?

Oh, I fudged up the first word. It was suppose to be kaze o hiku. Kaze does mean wind but its a saying that means to catch a cold in japanese. Funny how i learned that from talking to a japanese lady on animal crossing a long time ago. For taisetsu I was thinking of the word important but i think precious would fit the word too.

1.Niji I have no clue. Two selves or rainbow? xD I know i got this wrong.
2.Tatakai Expensive or high in price?

I love this thread I also enjoy Japanese very much. And I've seen a truck load of anime as well, so most of the metioned words sounded frikin familliar, but I couldn't get many of them. Only to facepalm when I read the answer, "of course!!", haha. If I see any I know then you'll be hearing from me

1.Niji I have no clue. Two selves or rainbow? xD I know i got this wrong.
2.Tatakai Expensive or high in price?
Actually, you were right on 1 - it means "rainbow".

      "Tatakai" in this case was "battle";
you seem to be thinking of "takai", which is "high" or "expensive".

      Yep. ^^

"Uta" means "song", and "kikoeru" means "to hear".
Actually, I think that "kikoeru" is more directly translated as "be audible" or something, but basically it has to do with hearing something.

      1. Yama
      2. Yasai
