Thread: Where is Everyone?

IDK. The subreddit is very active, but I don't really like it. I haven't checked, but I'm sure there are lots of facebook groups too. I would love if this forum could somehow be revived. But I don't know how that would be done.

It seems the activity on here has taken a nose dive in the last few months... I guess it goes up and down.

Na!! They all got taken hostage by some Brain-eating dream pirates.

Two words: social media. Websites and forums dedicated to just one topic are irrelevant. Now everyone has migrated to just a few "megasites" that cater to everyone at the same time.

Some of us are on Discord. Sorry, I'm late! Just got back from saving the world, you know how it is.

I believe your IP address would be the same throughout your house.
I believe that is the same on DV with the alt account stuff. It may be wrong for them to take your freedom of speech but, that rule about multiple accounts and photos that can be used as misleading information applies to everyone there, not just you only. (IMO)


What I do know:
Using a Fake name: Although it is not uncommon to see Facebook accounts in nicknames or self-created monikers, this is something that can get an account banned. Using a name other than your legal name is a violation of Facebook’s terms and conditions. It's worse if you are trying to get around an account Ban. That will earn you a permanent ban.

Creating multiple Facebook accounts: If you create more than one Facebook account, you might suddenly find yourself with zero. Facebook allows just one account per person.
“Friending” too many people in a short period: Facebook is always scanning for fake accounts. If your account mimics the patterns of a fake account, you could get banned right along with the phony ones. Friending large numbers of people in a short period can end with your account being shut down.
Liking too many things: This is another signal that an account may not be real and Facebook might disable it.
Posting spammy-type posts: No one likes spam in their newsfeed. If you’re posting it, you’re at risk of having your account flagged.
Posting fake news/ untrue information: This behavior can also lead to a Facebook account getting disabled. All Facebook users should fact check before resharing any posts. This includes anything used in slander.
Posting offensive photos or memes: Remember, this also includes posting things through Facebook Messenger. The same rules that apply to your public Facebook page apply to anything you send via messenger as well. Facebook monitors it all.

Forums aren't as popular as they used to be, but I'll live. I know we've adapted with the Discord and are still actively having discussions in there.

Discord who? The accounts I referred to had variations of my real name, and I used real pictures of myself as profile pictures. I created them because the others had been banned in the shady ways I described in the other thread. The accounts didn't get banned for the reasons you listed. If you don't have a problem with monopoly Facebook's dishonest censorship that is clearly political, then you and I are on entirely different frequencies. I hope you enjoyed your tea.

You did the whole ID picture thing and that didn't work? Or did you just not wait until it was processed?
Did you fill out the paperwork for repeal for your account? Is that still a thing?
If you really think the website is doing you wrong, you probably better off going to a lawyer than here.
Again, I don't have an account anymore because I just seriously outgrew that part of my life...
but, to be honest, the behavior of someone who is trying to make an account just to get around a banned like that sounds, from my point of view, suspiciously like someone who is behaving like a stalker... And that has nothing to do with politics. Innocent or not.

Why are you so condescending when you admittedly know so little about the situation? It doesn't make you look good. I explained the details of what happened in the other thread you commented in about this. You apparently didn't read much of what you replied to. Grow up, son.

Hey, what is the currently the most active lucid dreaming community / place for LDers to talk about their experiences? Is it Dreamviews or are there other places?
Appreciate your help.

Reddit (r/LucidDreaming) is very active but full of newbies and misinfo.
Discord - Dream Café - also very active but the chat format isn't suitable for in-depth discussions.

Sorry, Dreamviews is not a place for instant gratification like social media. I know that people want instant access to lucid dreaming to become lucid again as soon as possible. It doesn't work that way. That's not how a forum works that way.

I don't have a problem with people saying the forum is dead (it might sting a little, considering I've been part of this community for so long, but I'll live). Forums aren't as popular as they used to be, but we've adapted with the Discord and are still actively having discussions in there too.

What made you ask that question?

Well, I don't know if DreamViews is the most active. Probably not. If that's what you're looking for, then I suggest taking up one of IndigoRose's suggestions.

If you're looking for a community bonded together through a love of lucid dreaming .. if you're looking for a positive place with lots of in depth discussions .. if you're looking for a group of friends that share your hobby - then you're in the right place.

(Also: if you're looking for a community that has shared lucid dreaming goals and projects! OR a book club... we've got that. )

Yeah. I like forums. And don't really like the modern social media built for the attention span of today's teens. I sound old... maybe I am
But I still wish it was as active as it used to be in 2010-2014. And I wish that people who used to be active here and are now active elsewhere were still here.

But it's what we make it out if it here.

Damn man this thread hit home. I used to live for this forum when I was 13/14 during its glory years. I since stopped lucid dreaming and visiting this website, it’s been 6 years and I’ve found my way back here. I think a lot of the OGs will checkin from time to time. It’s difficult to say goodbye to this place forever.

The reddit community r/LucidDreaming with 400,000 members . although my personal experiences with it have been meh . There are a lot of people looking for instant Lucid dreams and the best LD method yet they start asking questions immediately before doing basic research on their own or reading the sidebar .

There used to be more posts on this site in a day than we get in half a year now. A few people from before are still lurking around, but there doesn't seem to be much point in posting when there's no new discussion.

Dreaming doesn't require proximity, you can dream wherever you are.

Here's a dark take on Beyond Dreaming social dynamics though....

People instinctively want to be a part of large, successful communities. When they're part of small, marginalized communities, they generally look for ways to leverage that into something else. So, for example, when people have friendships that revolve around mutual enjoyment of sports, it works in part because lots of cool people like sports. Even if the group of friends is small, they still feel an affinity with something larger.

Those of us who post to Beyond Dreaming forums are freaks in the sense that we're wired a bit differently than most other people. I think a lot of people have such experiences on rare occasions, but its not a big enough part of their lives to talk about it or think about it much. One might suppose that a sense of kindredness connected to this common experience would be a foundation for friendships. I think that's not quite how it works though. People seek that where they can find it. But what most people really want is a more comfortable social position within the larger society. People may not be conscious of that, so they may interact a bit to see what its like, but eventually they realize that what they're looking for is elsewhere and they lose interest. And more 'alpha' type people, who see themselves as potential leaders, engage only insofar as it seems like they can build some kind of following. But they're generally not content to be a minor part of a small community, they're trying to build something on it.

One sees something similar with small religious cults. There's a central figure who exploits the group, and the other people in the group who are enthralled with the apparent power of the central figure. But the group will fall apart if that unhealthy dynamic is broken, because friendly social affinity isn't enough to sustain it.

As another similar example, high school kids try to associate with more socially successfully kids. Rather than support each other, the less socially successful kids generally try to pull themselves up by pushing each other down. I'm not saying that real friendships among socially marginalized people don't exist, but I'm saying they are often less stable than friendships between higher status people, because eventually they'll throw them away in exchange for a chance to climb further up the pile. High status people sacrifice relationships also of course, but it is different for the more marginalized people, because everyone is trying to get away from social failure.

Now, you may disagree, and say that this is my experience because I'm a selfish, aggressive a-hole, but it isn't your experience. Maybe so. I'm just saying what I have observed. It isn't just people either, many other kinds of social animals are like this also. Dogs and cats seem nice because they're permanently in lower status but secure positions relative to their owners. But dogs behave a lot differently in wild packs.

In any case, we're free to act however we want to, within limits, and I'm not saying anything about how I think people should act. But I am suggesting one reason why communities built around unusual psychological phenomena may not turn out to be what we might hope for them to be.

There we're some pretty sick psychically manipulative social dynamics around this web site about 15 years ago I think, but most of it was over by the time I joined, and I just caught the tail end of it. I don't have any complaints about how I've been treated here.
