I'm a bit pissed off that cartoon network is banning all Speedy Gonzalez cartoons, although I usually only watch adult swim. Their arguments are that it could be considered racist by some and they could end up being sued. Yet there is this new show out about a bunch of little kids (who are obviously Mexican-American) who want to become wrestlers and most of the stereotypes are there, even the well known accent. Personally I don't get offended if the mice in the Speedy cartoons are always sleeping or drinking... we always get the "seņior pussy gato" in the end . |

Ignorant bliss is an oxymoron; but so is miserable truth.
yet they still show pepe le pew... i see even nickelodeon is pandering to the anti-french sentiment that's so abundant in our society. damn you media! *shakes fist in the air* damn you! |

clear eyes. strong hands.
Sterotypes a bit of an important part of any show. Else they would have to go over everything bit by bit for five hours just to get to the main point. |
|
On that I agree. On a personal level stereotypes don't bother me. Pile 'em up if they want. But if they think Speedy should be banned, then according to their criteria so should this new show I was talking about. |

They've got to understand and take into consideration the time frame in which those cartoons were created. Most of them were put out during World War II, when such stereotyping and racism was commonplace and more widely accepted. That was the whole point of Bugs Bunny and the Looney Toon name: to poke fun at everyone. |

They ae not cartoons but what of All in the familey or Sanford & sons. Or are they already banned? |

I know a kid who is banned from watching Cartoon Network for these very reasons. |

In all honesty, i think its fair what there doing. Raceisms taught or picked up. You don't want to send stupid and arogent message to impressiable children like "all black ppl have big lips" or "all mexicans aree illegals". The fact remains that both these are not true. |
