Thats me, stuck in a nutshell which a giant squirrel just put me in. =P
No, seriously.. if a person says that he/she means hes/shes giving a basic short summary of him/herself(or whatever hes talking about). You really didnt know or is this just senseless banter?
Im a giant squirrel, Im 1 year old, I got a fuzzy tail and two little front teeth to chew on stuff. I like to sit in trees and build my little home in there. I like to catch puny humans in nut shells, after I have eaten the content. Thats me in a nutshell.

Ok, "in a nutshell" means you take a large quantity of information or a long story and condense it into something short and easy to understand. What does it have to do with nutshells? What grows from an acorn...a HUGE tree. So when you take that HUGE tree (story/info) and put it into a nutshell (the short easy version) you get the phrase....in a nutshell.
