Any West Pointers Here?

So I have gotten a full ride at Marion Military Institute for a one year prep program for WP. They have a 90% acceptance rate for WP, and is among the two top prep schools referred to me by a retired WPer who basically recruits.
I just have to get a few things done, fees, high school transcript, etc.

On a side note I met some great Americans today, at the local SF chapter meeting. Billy Waugh was there among with many other Vietnam vets. Some SOG guys and so on.
Legends, heroes, and inspirations all.

:lol: Yeah, you might not be in the best place for that sort of thing. Half/Dreaming joined the military a few months ago, so I'm sure he would have good things to say if he comes across this thread. There are a few others here who would be with you on it.

Personally I can't wait to be deployed, but it will be about five years or so that I'll be able to.

I was signed up in the Royal Military College, had to bow out on account of medical reasons :?.

Ah, that sucks... Many a career is ruined cause of that.
I hope so too, even if I got something I would tell the doctor to tell no one haha. I ain't gonna let something get in my way of getting into Special Forces.

If you want to go SF you better be ready to get beat the hell up while tied to a chair. Google "SEAR Level C" and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Well, thats great dude. You're going to become an officer. Even though I am enlisted rather than comissioned, I would say being an officer is the way to go (only if you got assigned to a combat arms unit). Officers that have been in for 3 years get more respect than an enlisted soldier who's been in for 6 years.

Just be prepared for life to start sucking. Military life is like 95% hard work and 5% fun. Even for officers. You'll probably be doing a lot of paperwork and logistics.

Yeah he's at the Sgtl. Mjr Academy and everyone enlisted I talked to told me it would be better to go officer...
I'll be going infantry 11B and hopefully get into the Ranger Battallions for a while then move on to SF once I'm captain.
It's kinda bravo sierra(bullshit haha) that officers get paid so much more than enlisted men... I'm going to make sure I put the men I lead over me.

They get paid more because they are worth more. I must say the skills of officers are invaluable in the military world. All I have to do right now is follow orders, and shoot when the time comes.

TRUST ME, dude, you're getting in kinda deep. Ranger and SF aren't easily attained at all, and I'm sure you know that. You better be ready to put up with hell for the next 5 years after signing up. Even I have to put up with major shit, and I'm not even in SOCOM.

Because 2 of my guys fucked up (guys i went to basic with), my whole platoon is paying. We aren't released from the Troop until 2359 (because midnight is "too late". At 0430, we have a room inspection, EVERY DAY. We have to wear our full battle rattle (IBA, ACH, eye protection and gloves) AT ALL TIMES, including PT in the mornings. On the weekends, from the hours of 0430 to 2359, we have to check into Headquarters every half hour (and you have to be sober). On the freggin weekends MAN!!!!

O well. Sleep deprivation sucks. Anyway, this is senseless banter....so.....BOOBIES!!!....and sleep.

Well maybe but the NCOs are the backbone of the military. They are the ones who make the decisions on the field and keep the troops outta trouble.
The thing I don't like about pay is for instance... A NCO with 20 years makes around 4,000 a week. A officer with around 8 years makes a few hundred more or so.
But eh I ain't in charge of that.

Yeah, I know, but I've always been a runner and it takes a special kinda crazy for that. Have to be real dedicated. Hell you only live once, might as well go crazy.

That sucks haha well it will definitley make a deployment easier to handle. Train harder than you would fight and all that.

It is guaranteed that the U.S. would be owned by another nation right now if we did not have a military. What would stop Iran from marching in and taking over with Islamofascist rule if we did not have a military? Perhaps Ellis can give us the answer to that.

Hell everyone would be speaking German long before that.

I call total bullshit on that. I think what he said was extremely well put. It wasn't sarcasm any way. It was just very good and to the point retort. I know what you think of the U.S. military, and I think it has you insulting our soldiers even when you talk to them.
