Humans are drawn to pretty much everything by what? Curiosity. We do the dumbest things for what? Curiosity. Why do we stick stick ourselves in a cage with sharks swimming around? Curiosity. Why do we do retarded things like shove our hands into dangerous objects? Curiosity. Why do some of use spend our whole lives looking for lost cities and whatnot? You guessed it . . . Curiosity. You can't see what's in this thread until you open it. Maybe if you'd said, "DANGER: ENTERING WILL MAKE YOU EXPLODE!" then maybe. But we know that's illogical and will most likely enter anyway to see what you're trying to hide. We're curious, not retarded. (well, I can't speak for everyone...) Unlike most animals, we have to learn most of what we know. Animals still learn things, but a great deal of it is instinct (snakes are relatively dumb creatures who survive on pure instinct). Most of the important instincts we have come from the brain stem, but those are only good on their own for so long. We have to learn everything else, and curiosity forces that. We're also intelligent (generally speaking) and want to know the why of things. When a mother tells her child not to touch the stove, he may touch it anyway. He doesn't know why he can't touch it, just that he's not supposed to. How many kids do everything their parents say? Maybe if she'd said, "The stove is hot and will burn your fucking flesh off," then he may have listened. It's not just that we're curious creatures. We're rule-breakers. What? Don't get into the cookie jar before dinner? Oookay, I promise...

It's called the Show-Me state because we're all cynics, just like every other person on earth who is not insanely trusting of others. If you saw an empty cage that said "do not enter," and had no door and nothing was about to destrpy it or stop you from leaving, you might want to see why the sign eas there. If you saw an empty lion's cage that had a sign saying "If you enter, you will be turned into a small pile of component molecules," you might enter to call the bluff. If it said "do not enter or the lion will kill you," and there was a lion... well, that still would't stop some people. It all boils down to curiosity, not trustuing unproven/unreasoned authority, and people not being omniscient
