      Loneliness

What are your thoughts about the topic?
      Real/Imagined?
If it's real, why do people feel lonely? What do they need?
      Is it natural?
If it's imagined, what trigers it? What is the point of feeling lonely?
      Etc.

It sucks, and I've resigned myself to it.

      Goodnight.

      .

We are but social creatures, we need others. Anyone that might understand, or even just listen to us.

I wonder about the autistic kids, who don't care, or much less understand how to feel empathetic. How different is their Loneliness to our "normal" Loneliness.?

      Looks like a giant mushroom.

People feel lonely because togetherness is an illusion

Well, I haven't been to any sort of social gathering since November of last year (for both good and bad reasons which would take too long to explain), but I'm not too lonely. In fact, my net happiness is up. All my other needs are satisfied, it's just the social aspect of my life that is missing. Sometimes I do get a bit lonely, but it's usually only when I think of what I might be missing out on.

Lonely people need people near them who understand who they are. People who will listen.

Loneliness is an evolutionary thing. Being in a group, accepted into a group, increases your chances of survival, and potentially the survival of others in the group (the smaller the group, the more you'll help).

In primitive times, we'd look for other people on the basis of survival. Now, we search for people with "acceptance" and "understanding" in deeper, more thorough ways. Luckily, with the advent of cars, phones, and the internet (!), it has become much easier to find people with similar interests and thought processes. So we feel less lonely. Still, the type of loneliness we have now, where we feel lonely not in respect to physical proximity to others, but mental proximity, is more of some luxury emotion, recently evolved.

It's a very primate thing. Bengal tigers don't care.

Those sound like serious questions, unbefitting of senseless.

Loneliness stems mostly (from what I have so far observed) from the desire for a significant other. People, I think, just want to be loved. They just want to be loved. That is all.

And then there's people like me... people who find interacting more taxing than rewarding.
I would happily be a hermit. I could even give up the internet and my interactions there.

I guess I would still be lonely if I didn't have an animal. If I was a hermit, I would have a cat or dog- something to talk to and touch.

As it is, cyberspace satisfies any desire I have for interaction even though the desire is not strong.

Hmmm... interesting thread. It definitely shouldn't be in SB.

Loneliness is imagined, it's all in your head. I am a shy non-outgoing person mostly and I never feel lonely. I guess if you are an extrovert it may be different, idk...

How on earth could loneliness be imagined?

Anyway, sometimes I get lonely. But never for more than five minutes. You know why? This next part is real hard, and you're going to have to really concentrate to keep up: Go outside and meet people (!!!).
