Another day, she mused, pulling the mask tight across her face and carefully making sure that it was secure. It was a new day, a new decision, a new target. Looking down at the crumpled sheet of paper taped to her mirror, thick lines of red pen crossing out those opponents who had already been dispatched, she knew that she would have to pick a target. Sadly so many of those left were friends. Some were powerful opponents, people she would have to be wary of approaching in the wrong part of the city, but there were those she genuinely cared for, those she wished would go peacefully in their sleep rather than have to suffer at the point of a sword. Nonetheless, if it came to that, she knew where to strike. It would be swift, merciful, and clean. Bleach could get heavy over long distances.

Grabbing her small arsenal she left her safe-haven and headed out into the field. She still had time to decide who it would be. Her movements were silent, her steps purposeful. From shadow to shadow she crept, her eyes always searching in every direction for a sign of danger. On a normal day she could tell when danger was around her. In this war, that feeling was all around her, so she had to trust her senses to tell her when the bullets were flying at her.

Coming across a dilapidated part of town, she paused under the shelter of a few slabs of fallen concrete which sported a number of very small holes which looked out in different directions. She was careful to avoid looking out of any one for too long. It was during one of those short moments that she spied a man walking through town, almost nonchalantly. He was carrying a revolver. His shirt had several tears in it and there was a bandage wrapped around his right leg, only slightly soaked through with blood. She could tell that he was still recovering from a recent attack and would likely be easy to tag.

Preparing her weapon, she creeped towards an opening in absolute silence. When she judged the timing to be right, she threw out a couple of smoke bombs to hide her leaping from the tiny shelter. Having memorized hix exact position, she shot at him from within the cloud before running off as fast as her legs would carry her. It didn't take her long to find a new spot where she could see whether or not she had hit her target. Ducking into what seemed to have been a run-down Russian pawn shop, she peeked out and saw who she'd strick.

Howie! she gasped. He was looking down at his left leg, the dart protruding from its target a few inches.

"What the ****," she heard him yell! She was surprised to hear that his words were more curious than pained. He stared at the dart. "Seriously! Who the **** uses blow-darts during a war?"

I do, old friend, she answered silently. I do.

Suddenly there was movement behind her. Wondering how she hadn't smelled the smoke from the small fire before, she cursed herself for being careless. Looking quickly to see what it was, she first noticed the brim of a black hat dipping low over a man's face. He raised his eyes as he raised his knife. She recognized the knife first.

When he looked at her eyes, his grip on the knife relaxed a bit. She assumed he also saw the dart gun in my hand, empty from having recently been used. She'd already hit her target today. From the look on his face when he raised his head, he had, too. Relaxing a bit herself, she pulled two more knives from her belt and placed them on an overturned box. Before she left she muttered two words just loud enough for his ears to pick them up. "Be safe."
