...because senselessness is an art form.

Wow ._.
That's awesome- it reminds me of some of the stuff I draw, seemingly just a collage of patterns yet structured in some way.
Interesting.
Good stuff. It looks like it fits into the category of general abstract art. Abstract expressionism is even more nonsensical...

Although this may be a nonsensical drawing, it is in fact the art form of abstract ergo belongs in Artist's Corner.
I make another ones

That is a neat image though Nina, clearly a mod should have moved it to Artist's Corner. Those scoundrels are so slow.
nooo but it's senseless!!
Not all senseless stuff has to be crap, you see? :)
edit: that cartoon is hilarious
I dislike abstract art. :?
I don't know what you would call this drawing...but it's not abstract.
I am a fan of Renaissance, Neoclassic, Surrealism, Dada, Neo-Surrealism, Magic Surrealism, German Expressionism
I'm sorry I seem to have mixed up abstract with Impressionism. I really hate Impressionism. You are right, I guess this could be abstract (although I'm still not a typical fan of abstract art) ;) And thanks. For me it is Surrealist.
Why have we never par-tayed?
I wouldn't call it abstract, I wouldn't even say it belongs in the artist corner. It is a goofy doodle. It is well drawn, sweet as hell, but it isn't supposed to be judged as art. As far as I can tell, Aquanina is just trying to make a point: We can be civilized in/b/SB.
Thanks for the pic, Aqua.
EDIT: There were like 5 posts made while I was writing this. Just saying..

Nonsense in art is not limited to paintings. I am a huge fan of theater of the absurd. A lot of people aren't the least bit into it and don't see value in it, but, as with paintings, that does not mean it is not an art form.
Surrealism and dadaism are involved in some writings too. Surreal poetry:
I was delayed that afternoon because I had brushed the teeth of a pretty animal that I'm patiently taming. It's a chameleon. This endearing animal smoked, as usual, some cigarettes, then I left.
I met her on the stairs. "I'm mauving," she told me, while I myself crystal at full sky I at her look that river towards me.
Then it locks and, maîtresse! You pitcherpin so that at nice vase I sit down if the paths tombs.
The staircase, always the staircase that library, and the crowds down there more abyss than the sun only clocks.
Lets get back up! But in vain, memories become sardine! hardly, hardly a button doodledoos. Fall, fall down! And here the verdict: "The dancer will be executed the following morning while doing a dance step with her gems sacrificed to the heat of her body: The blood of the gems, soldiers!"
And what then, the mirror yet! Mistress you black square, and if the clouds all at once forgetmenot, they mills in the ever present eternity.
Ideal Mistress by Robert Desnos
Nonsense exists in some art, in varying degrees.
I don't know from art, but that is the most spectacular condom failure I have ever witnessed.
There will be retard babies.
lol...why are they retards?
UM thanks for posting those...if you guys keep making great posts such as that I will be forced to move this from senseless banter hah...
I like that surreal poem. Oh and I am not a fan of any art where you actually have to stop and think, wait, is this art? Or something a 3 year old made? Or you actually feel like someone is pulling a fast one on ya emperor's new clothes style.
definitely reminds me of some of Dali's stuff
I see some sort of abstract expressionsim in the means that it is an abstraction of your own personal expression in a surrealistic setting-- the movement and strokes just seem to be characterised by mood rather than logic and perfectionism, just like what I tend to do. How did you go about making the "random" obtrustions as the end and in the air-- did you think and plan them out in your mind in detail or just sort of move your hand in the desired directions you only felt was best? If it's the second one I'd classify this one mostly as a surreal-expressionism, though the two of them go hand-in-hand I would say.
I don't entirely agree with the art movements and their distinct definitions, because so many of the definitions are interchangable. Abstraction can change a subject in a very vast and deconstructive manner, or it may be something so small that it's rather unnoticeable, but simplification nonetheless. Expressionism, for all one knows, could look like something from the neo-classic era but for the painter was something deeply emotional and influenced by emotion, and the distortion so commonly present in expressionism may have been something so small or perhaps deals with the entire subject of the painting itself in a small way-- religious settings and whatnot, one could say, is a bit of a distortion of time and reality.
Nothing was planned out...this is pure stream of consciousness stuff right there. It received a title only after it was complete and I took a look at the drawing as a whole.
I guess this is why I said senselessness is an art form...I wouldn't have said this had I planned out the whole composition first. Reality_is_a_Dream said it best...it's just a goofy doodle. :)
Meant to reply to this, a long time ago. It was in seeing you in my art thread, that I remembered. :?
This is awesome, though. Truly. I find it hard to believe that you didn't have the condom concept in mind, when you were just doodling (though I'm not going to doubt you.). It's just so perfect that it's hard to see it as anything other than deliberate. Great work, Nina. Can't wait to see more of your work. Like TJ, you've got that kinda technique that makes me stop and go "ok, now this is interesting," which is so rare, even among the art that I like.
Good stuff. :>
And I would definitely file this away under "surreal", over abstract, on first glance. If you honestly did not have the concept in mind, though, when drawing it, I think it might actually be definable as abstract. I dunno...
You know, I don't think I ever said it, but I love this. I think I just argued about whether it belong in AC or not :P
This has just motivated me to post some of the recent stuff I've done out of my chemistry binder :) I'll do that. I really love this style, it's pretty much how I always draw.
Condoms are a blight on my life.
