      Question Thinking of trying Everyman for my senior year of high school..?

      So last night I read up on the Uberman sleep schedule and the Everyman sleep schedule (I've heard of them before, but never actually considered it...til now).

      One thing I always hated about high school was the times. I have to get up at 6 am and I only begin to feel awake around 9-10 am, but even then I get this muted, dulled sense of perception. I tend to fall asleep around 11 pm because I have homework to finish and a social life to attend to...I end up never having enough time to do all that I want, and end up always feeling tired in the end.

      So I thought about these sleep schedules...uberman doesn't really sound like my kind of thing, because I like flexibility incase I need to move a nap and whatnot. Everyman seems very doable, and I'll still have a minor sense of the days...and I would only have to do one or two nap times during school (I'm going to be a senior, so I can use free periods to my advantage hopefully).

      I was planning on doing this during either Christmas or February vacation, to give me some time to adjust without a school schedule at first...and by then I will be 18 as well, not that I have heard of any major consequences of being under 18 and doing this.

      Since I feel tired during school anyway, I figured I had nothing to lose..but I do have a question. I'm a REALLY deep sleeper. Like, pick me up and carry me around the house and I won't even know I've been moved. Shake me a lot and I won't respond. Will a polyphasic sleep schedule make me a light sleeper? This is a minor question, but I love being a deep sleeper...I wouldn't want that to change.

      Sorry about the long post!

      Hi Luni, I am also a deep sleeper and on an Everyman schedule. At least during the adjustment period you will find yourself sleeping harder and deeper than usual because your body is sleep deprived. I adjusted by doing Uberman for 2 weeks then switching over to Everyman, so I'm not entirely sure how much of a difference it will make but I can imagine that the longer your core nap the lighter you'll sleep during your other naps. After a while it will lighten up a bit, and seem more natural. I'd say that however deep of a sleeper you are now, is how deep it will be on a polyphasic schedule after adaption.

      Good luck. I tried Uberman a couple weeks ago, but gave up after three nights of staying up. My main problem was that I didn't have any way to fill a 22-hour day, and I didn't have anyone staying up with me. I've heard that Everyman is easier though, and if you're short on time now then being bored shouldn't be a problem.

      I also thought about doing Everyman during the school year, but with the rotating schedule my school has I would always be napping at different times, which wouldn't work. I don't suppose I'd be able to go the entire school day (about 7 hours) without a nap.

      Thanks :] Yeah, my friend is currently trying Uberman and I believe she just accidentally fell asleep an hour before one of her naps...I've been trying to call her phone but to no avail x_X

      I mean I have plenty to do during the summer but as soon as school starts up I'm going to get bogged down with busywork.

      Do you have block days? My school has a rigid period 1-9 schedule, so I'm hoping to work with any free periods for that. 7 hours without a nap sounds very tiring @_@

      I remember 3 years ago in school I tried one of the two and had moderate success for a while. I can't remember any specifics, but I seem to remember it being great during the colder weeks and unbearable in the hot weeks. My main issue was I could sleep when I was supposed to when it was hot. I was far too uncomfortable, which led to further problems. Summer is usually when I pursue sports pretty heavily and I just couldn't do it.

      I remember biking up a hill with my friend while on the schedule, and usually I'd have no problem. It was a mile long hill, and I distinctly remember stopping to apologize every quarter of a mile. I was simply exhausted.

      Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that if you have plans which require any kind of exertion, mental or physical, think hard about whether upturning your natural sleep pattern is wise.

      @TysonToast

      Well I'm not a sportsy person, but that's a good thing to keep in mind, thanks. I do tend to do physical things though such as walking and running a little...

      @Vorago

      Thank you too :] That's pretty cool, I'll send you a PM.

      Nope, we don't have blocks. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by a period 1-9 schedule, but I gave up on trying to make sense of other schools' system. Just learning my own school's bell schedule was hard enough. =3
