Scared please help !

hi i`m a middle aged father that has just recently had some terrifying experiences about 2 months ago i was woken up well it was not woke up in the normal fashion as i could hear everything going on around me, but i could not move any part of me, i could not even move my eye balls it was like i was trapped inside my body with no control what so ever i could hear my wife and daughter talking next to me on the couch i could hear the tv going the phone ringing my sons arguing and so on and here i was trapped trying to yell out for help i was totally freaking out only there was no way to get help as i couldn't move at all i fought to move for hours and finally i fell asleep only to wake up normally i talked to my wife about what happened and then told her what i heard and yes it was what they were talking about and a few other things i talked to her about i got right so i know i was not sleeping the scary part is is now it happening more. one time it happened is why in here now researching if this thing happens to anybody else,. here goes i fell asleep one night to awake in this same state trapped in my body but couldn't move or talk or anything but listen well i could hear my cat and feel him walking over me he then jumped up on our head board and knocked a contouring foam pillow down over top of my face and it started to form over my face closing off my air passage it was getting very hard to breath and i was trying as hard as i could to scream out for help yet the harder i tried it felt like the harder it was getting. all the time i could hear my wife trying to catch the cat to get it out of the room when she did get the cat out of the room she came back to bed and she removed the pillow from on top of my face which by then had me struggling to breath and really freaking out yet stuck in this kinda limbo by myself my question is ? has this happened to anybody else here on these forums and is there anyway to stop it from happening, and is there away to wake up,. the only way i have been able to get out of this state is. once my wife shook me after struggling to wake up for hours the alarm clock went off and my wife shook me it was like soon as she touched me all my body control came back instantaneously i jumped up in bed so fast while screaming for help at the top of my voice it really scared my wife pretty bad ,and the second way to was to calm down and try to fall back asleep to wake up normally please if anybody can help its making going to sleep a real living nightmare for me thx vince

Haha, that's just sleep paralysis. On this site, we actually try to induce it! It's just a part of sleep.

You could try wiggling your toes, I hear that helps people get out of it.
Maybe though, you can just enjoy it. When you know what it is, it can be very entertaining. You just need to relax. When you think you can't move, you panic, and this is what brings on the scary stuff.

i have been able to control my dreams somewhat for most of my life. but never had i experienced anything like this before ill try the toe wiggling next time it happens. i was very comfortable with it before the pillow falling on my face. it took me awhile to get that way but it was the only i was able to breakout out of it was to relax and to fall back into sleep. my question and the part that is scaring me so bad is that the body wakes me up when bad thing happen like one of the kids jumping on me really loud noises stuff like that but being in sleep paralysis do they still work to wake you since you are already awake thx

i've had a series of sleep paralysis episodes for a long time before i realized what they were, trust me the best thing you can do is to simply relax and try to focus on moving just one part of your body. i just had one this morning actually, the initial reaction is usually to panic because you wake up and you may feel confused or alarmed (it still is for me even though i've had dozens) but then i realize where i am, i breathe deeply and focus on wiggling my toes, and in seconds i can move again.

When you are in sleep paralysis, the bets thing to do to get out of it is to concentrate on your breathing. That is one of the few things you still have control of. Breathe deeply and slowly at first, then breathe fast. Don't hyperventilate or anything, just change it. Also, imagine waking up normally, and don't ever panic.

It actually sounds like cataplexy, which can last for a while as well, as I've never heard of someone in SP for hours. I've woken up into SP a few times, but only affected my eyes... or maybe it was an FA. However, cataplexy is a disease, so no reason why you'd only have it 2ce after however old you are, and it's onset isn't from sleep. Maybe it is just SP...
