Tell me more about sleep talking and sleepwalking

So when I was a kid, I used to sleepwalk almost every night. Like, I went to bed upstairs. And I woke up in the middle of the night downstairs laying on the couch with all the lights turned on. Ofcourse that scared the hell outta me xD. I stopped sleeping walking when I was 14 or so. I'm glad that it's over. Cause it was also quite confusing when I woke up downstairs without knowing how I got there. But I still talk when I'm asleep. According to my mum, I talk in a foreign language. Which sounds like Turkish/latin. Does sleepwalking and sleep talking happen during NREM or REM? I assume it happens during NREM though but I'm not sure. And what's causing my sleep talking, how can I stop doing this?

I assume sleepwalking would happen during nREM because sleep paralysis during REM should prevent all movement. My sister did that until she was about 7 or 8. She woke up in the middle of the night, walked out of her room and somehow got into my parents room and sat on their bed staring at them until they woke up. I obviously didn't ever see it because I was sleeping, but that's what my parents said. I've never heard of anyone talking in a different language while sleepwalking. Very strange.

I did try and have a bit of a conversation with my GF a couple of years back when she started talking in her sleep.
I heard her mention being at this place (a town near me,) so I tried to ask her what she was doing there, etc.
Trouble is, she went into a deeper sleep, but it was interesting nethertheless.

With me, I have had the odd near DILD situation where at the point of near realisation (non-RC) where I have had the thought cross my mind that I could be sleepwalking, as often the dream involves me in my own house.
This tended to make me panic.

Like you just mentioned about your sister. I sometimes sorta did the same thing. Like I went to my parents room and asked them if I could go onto my computer. That usually happened in the middle of the night when everyone was asleep.

And I don't sleepwalk and sleep talk at the same time. I just talk in some sort of foreign language when I'm laying in my bed.

The most common problem for sleep walking and talking seems to be stress, some of my family members would yell IRL because of bad or stressfull dreams during nREM. There's not much you can do other than have a good bed, good sleep and be happy.
