Question How can I make myself tired?

Here's my situation: I'm trying to use a lucid induction video. It requires that you fall asleep within the first ten minutes, but I'm never tired enough.

My sleep patterns sre rather irregular, which is likely part of the problem. Because I'm still on summer vacation, I have no real reason to hop outta bed in the morning. I'm usually tired when I wake up, I oftentimes end up sleeping until 1-4 in the afternoon. Thus, I'm not tired at night. One of two things happen from here: I go to sleep sometime in the morning, usually sleeping until the afternoon again, or I stay up all night so I'll be tired the next night. With the latter, I usually fall asleep in the middle of the day or drift in and out of full conciousness.

Even if this is only brief, I'm not tired later. I've tried milk, reading, and binaurals, but nothing seems to work.

Any tips? I'd rather do this without medication, BTW.

Write down ten things that yield a negative physical sensation for you and memorize the list (or use a voice recorder on your phone, etc.) Plan to lay down and not move at all. Each minute that goes by you should plan to relax even more after each minute (if you can make a positive association with the thing or process that causes you a negative physical sensation). This ALWAYS works for me. Oh and you actually might need a voice recorder to keep track of the minutes and just say your Info. at each minute mark. This is what I do and I get to bed in at least the first ten minutes each time.

I would say that avoiding the afternoon sleep would be best.

But, also, drinking a sedating tea before bedtime might work wonders. I do this, and it always puts me to sleep fairly quickly. The top four, in my view, for falling asleep are:

      California poppy (very effective)
      Catnip (very effective)
Lavender (knock-out effect, but no staying power)
      Lemon balm (honorable mention)

I make a VERY strong brew - not with a lot of herb in it, but with very little water (so I don't wake up in the middle of the night, having to empty my bladder). I suggest maybe 1/2 to 1 teaspoonful of herb to 1/3 cup of hot water. Let it steep for at least 10 minutes before drinking.

-Eliminate stress as much as possible.

-Get up earlier than you should.

      -Exercise.

-Go for a walk throughout the day instead of driving.

-Cut down on the caffeine, especially in the evening.

-Try Melatonin, Lemon Balm, Passionflower, Chamomille, Lavender, Valerian Root, etc.

-Try Doxylamine succinate (sold as "Hoggar" in Germany).

      -Try Valium (Diazepam).

Have you considered watching this video during a WBTB? You will be able to fall asleep much faster then.

I'll try tonight, but I still wasn't tired enough the last time I did that.

Regular exercise, don't sham on it either, challenge yourself. Do not consume more than 200mg of caffeine in a day, and do not consume any of that caffeine past 3pm. Have a regular sleep schedule. Don't sleep for 14 hours at a time.

You said that you have no reason to hop out of bed early. Now you have one: inducing a LD. Isn't that reason enough to get up earlier in order to be tired when you want to fall asleep?
I always listen to some calming music before I go to bed and I have a consistent sleep schedule. Then I do MILD in bed for about 10-15 minutes and after that I usually fall asleep within 10 minutes. Might work for you as well PS: don't get more than 10 hours of sleep. It's gonna be hard to fall asleep then

People seem to be under the assumption that I sleep 'til 1-4 in the afternoon on purpose, which is not the case.

A hot bath an hour before bed.
My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.
