Sleeping Positions/Childhood Sleeping Habits

This thread is entirely out of my own curiosity - anyone viewing this, please tell me, which position do you naturally feel the most comfortable in when trying to get to sleep? I don't just mean your orientation, but the positioning of your arms, legs, is your head tucked in or lolled back, are your hands in fists (are you holding onto your duvet?) or are your fingers loose?
Also, what position do you find yourself in (or what other people have told you you're in) when you wake up?

The other part of this thread, is what were your sleeping habits when you were a child? I've often heard hilarious or weird stories of the activities people have done and the positions people have been in.
I'm just curious as to why we often had weird habits when we were in our main development stage.

For dreaming practise - flat on my back, head slightly elevated - 2 pillows, arms either side
For comfortable sleep - on my right side, vaguely foetal position, hands under 1 thin pillow

hands are flat, no fists.

I can only fall asleep if I'm on my right side of my body facing my wall with my left knee brought up and my right knee straight, and my arms straight out lest I want to wake up in sleep paralysis. Also my pillow must me tuck between my shoulder and neck so my head is propped up in alignment with my spine. I also can only fall asleep with my T.V. on, but the volume on level 2 so I can only hear mumbling. That's a habit I've developed and rely on for sleep. The flasing lights of the T.V. blocks any visual things that try to mess with me, and the T.V. mumbles block any audio things that try to mess with me. Also I can't sleep without my cat in the room. I wake usually faced the opposite way or on my back.

As a child I used to fall asleep with my butt in the air, as did my sister, I think a lot of kids do that though :)

To fall asleep, I like facing toward the right in a slightly-fetal position, either laying one hand on my cheek or forehead, and the other just being loose. When I'm actually sleeping, I do quite the opposite and just roll all over the place, to wake up with my sheets all in a bundle.

In order to sleep I needed to massage my hands/fingers on this grooved sippy cup. It was really relaxing. I still have little callous spots on my hands. Two (on each hand) between index finger and thumb, and four (two on each hand) under the inside of the thumbs.

I sleep in the fetal position almost on my left side with my hands under my head. As a kid I slept on my back with one knee up.

I used to sleep straight on my stomach, arms tucked under my body ( like where you can feel the pelvic bone). Sometimes I sleep like that when I am cold or need to stretch my legs but mostly I just sleep on my side left or right it doesn't matter. I always make fists though and my legs are usually crossed.I wake up pretty much in the same position. Also I don't like a lot of pillows one is sufficient.

Lol I agree, one pillow will do it. Too many pillows and my head will be propped up like a pez dispenser. My sister sleeps with a kingdom of pillows, I don't know how she does it.

Aw that's a cute childhood tactile comfort. I used to have tactile comfort with erasers.

I move a lot. First I lay on my side, turned right. Then I turn to the left. Then I try to lie on my belly. Then I start going from one to another until I fall asleep. Unless it's cold. Then I stay on the first position, turned to the right, under the covers and don't move at all because the other parts of the bed are cold. :lol: Oh, and my arms flail a lot. Honestly, half the time I'm trying to sleep, I pretty much look like a car ran over me, I have no idea how the positions I get myself into are comfortable. But they sure are. ;)

As for when I was a kid, I used to sleep with all my stuffed animals, since I was afraid of the dark. I'd often wake up to find them on the floor (a clear sign they went down every night to defend me... of course), and more than once I woke up upside down. I moved a lot more when I was a child. :P

Hah! I thought I was extremely weird because I need to sleep that way too.

I can't just assume the position, though. I'm a bit like a dog that has to circle the area before sleeping. I have to roll around for a bit, roll to one pillow, then back to the other. I know what makes me comfortable, but I usually HAVE to do the rolling thing before getting on my side and bringing my knee up.

i struggle with comfort and move around a lot from almost any of the common and slightly weird positions. i like to lay on my hands and curl up the most, I suppose.

and when i was much younger, the usual, face down and ass up.

I move around a lot, my favorite position is on my belly and I hate lying on my back
when it's hot I lie on top of my cover.
and I often put one hand underneath the pillow.

when I was a kid I always thought about a different world before falling asleep. Thinking about a world in which I had superpowers calmed me down a lot.

I nearly always sleep best on my right side, curled up slightly with my hands under my pillow. And I sleep on my stomach from time to time, I like to stretch out like a cat.

I've heard that's not the best for the spine over a long life of dreaming, but I'm never comfortable on my back.

I am still under 18, so i'll answer both in one.

I sleep in a number of different ways, but the most common ways are on my side or straight on my back. Sometimes I'll put my head under my head and curl my feet. The fetal position, come to think of it.
