Had a lot of trouble sleeping last night..

I went to bed at the usual time I tend to go to at night, and proceeded to TRY and go to sleep. What I went through was possibly the most effort I put in to try and go to sleep ha ha. Here's the thing that really held me back: I wasn't particularly trying to WILD, but every single time I saw signs of me falling asleep, like HH and loss of consciousness, I would kind of get excited and wake myself back up. I did have my intent on DEILDing when I had the chance, though. I wouldn't really open my eyes or anything, as I tried to ignore the fact that I was still awake and go back to sleep, but to no avail.

Has anyone had a similar problem like this? How'd you get through it? Cause damn I'm kinda tired now lol

I find that trying to sleep keeps me awake. I just imagine random stuff until I realise I'm waking up in the morning. I just try to forget I'm in my bed and that usually does the trick!

This is what's happened to me all my life, minus the trying to dream part. Always takes me 2 to 3 hours to go to sleep and it's nearly impossible for me to really maintain a consistent sleep schedule. Consider yourself lucky if this isn't a common occurrence. ;(

One thing I do to fall asleep on the rare night I cannot sleep - I think of depressing things.

Really? How does that work for you? I don't mean how well, but by what mechanism?

Depressing things evoke an emotional response to whatever scenario I've got going on in my head, anything that causes me to change my mood or feelings that I'm thinking about typically keep me awake longer. In order to fall asleep quickest, I have to quit thinking, but not really try to stop thinking. Basically my mind goes silent for a few seconds, and then my mind begins making up thoughts of its own, and the less I pay attention to those thoughts, the more quickly I fall asleep. It can be difficult to do though, it only really helped me out a lot when I got regular vigorous exercise and feel asleep on a mostly routine sleep schedule.

I guess feeling sad wears me out. I do not do that all the time. I do not think of real world scenarios though, it is stuff I make up. Sometimes it is based on my real-world past. Like thinking of why people come and go. Or I fabricate stories in my mind about the scenario. It is really weird. OR, I will think of one of my old dreams that were sad and re-write the dream in my head to where the story is longer...
Before I know it, those jumbled thoughts and images take over and next thing I know - the alarm is buzzing the next morning.

I do not know if this will help but one thing that helps me fall asleep when I stay up too long - as I lay there, I think, "Well, even if I am awake, at least I am relaxing in bed" and then I start thinking about how the bed feels, how dark the room is aside the TV...

I am kind of lucky I guess cause sleep usually comes to me pretty easy.
