Why people have trouble falling asleep most of the time...

Something I just realized that might be very helpful...

We all have trouble falling asleep from time to time, right? WHY!?

What do always we think about when we're having trouble falling asleep? Oh, you know, we think things from the past, when we were AWAKE and things from the future, when we are going to be AWAKE.

Ah, but here's the kicker! What do we think about most? I need to SLEEP! But, in order to think that, you need to acknowledge that you're AWAKE.

Therefore, when people can't fall asleep it's because they are thinking about being awake! They're encouraging themselves to stay awake!!!

So, how do you fall asleep quickly? Don't think about the past or the future or about anything related to being awake! Stay in the present moment! Meditate! Count sheep! Watch tv! Anything that keeps your mind off being awake!!!

Gotta love logic. I hope this helps!

I can almost always fall asleep by putting on an audio book and then turning it down to where I can barely hear it. But sometimes it takes quite a while. Its basically bore yourself to sleep method. I never like to resort to this method, what If I have a boring dream. Like if I fall asleep and then dream I'm being bored by audio books...

I know that SSILD helps me sleep. It's probably because of that 'present moment' thing.

I used to have trouble sleeping - now my rule is, instead of trying to sleep, just try to relax (but don't try too hard).

My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.

Thoughts can definitely be a reason for me to stay awake. I haven't often tried the relaxation techniques; usually, if I can't sleep after a particular span of time I just say “forget it” and stay up until I do feel sleepy. Or sometimes, if possible, just take the time to try to address some things that bother me so I won't have to think about them so much.

Sometimes I will listen to quiet music for a while in bed, music I know will help me relax. Then I shut the music off and I stay relaxed enough to drift off. Usually. What is SSILD? Where can I find info about that?
