Do you sleep on a futon? Can you give me some tips?

I'm thinking about getting a Japanese style futon. It doesn't take up much space, is more easily transported than a mattress, and it sounds very comfy. However, I can't decide which kind to get. There are just so many confusing options. Look! Confusing!
At first, obviously, I thought I'd just get the cheapest material (plain cotton), but then I still had to decide if I wanted 6, 8, or 10 layers, and how broad or narrow the futon should be, and then I gave up because I frankly don't know.
So, futon owners, can you give me some tips about what materials and how many layers are good, and how broad it should be so I don't roll off all the time? Thanks!

OK, I just went ahead and ordered one; 8 layers of cotton, 100cm broad. It takes a few weeks to get manufactured and sent to my place, I'll update a few nights after that for anyone who might be interested.

Oh God. I don't think I have ever slept this well on anything. It's simply perfect for me. Plus, I had my third ever LD the first night I slept on the new futon. 10/10 would sleep again.
