      False awakenings

      Hey guys!

Over the past few months I've been experiencing 'false awakenings' some mornings. Basically i'll dream that i have woken up and got out of bed and will maybe be walking around my room getting dressed and i'll be convinced that it is real for a time before i realise I'm still sleeping and i will then actually wake up for real. This morning it happened multiple times and I'm actually starting to find it quite distressing. This is due to the fact that when i actually wake up i'll wonder whether or not I'm just experiencing another 'false awakening' and that in fact I'm actually still asleep and this is causing me to worry and is leading to anxiety. I was just wondering if anybody else has had similar experiences and if so whether they have any tips on how to try and avoid this from happening so often or advice on how to deal with it.

You could always set the intention to not have any False Awakenings.

Although, when you wake up perform a Reality Check because you can turn a False Awakening into a Lucid Dream.

      Welcome to the forum!

False awakenings (FAs) are nothing to be worried about. FAs are actually a great way to induce lucidity. Train yourself to do a Reality Check or two whenever you wake up, and you'll know instantly whether or not you're still dreaming. If you're awake, then you're fine. If it's an FA, congrats, you are now in a lucid dream!

You can find more about FAs as well as related links for turning FAs into lucid dreams here: FA - False Awakening - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

Check out DreamViews' tutorial on Reality Checks: Reality Check Tutorial - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

Whenever you wake up, just perform one the suggested RCs, and you'll know with about 99% accuracy whether you're dreaming or not. It helps to do two or more in a row to cover that extra 1%.

You could always do a motionless Reality Check, for example try to sink below your bed or simply try to float up.
