Did You Leave The T.V. On?

Anyone use the t.v. to help you fall asleep at times? I know its not recommended since sleeping in the dark is said to be a lot better for us but just curious to know who else does it.

I've always been able to fall asleep with the tv on without any problems. I actually used to prefer falling asleep with the tv on but after not having a tv for years I now prefer sleeping in the dark.

Whether the tv impacts your sleep or not depends on how much you care what is coming from the tv. It's often said that light decreases melatonin production which makes it harder to fall asleep, but having a busy mind will keep you up even more. A tv can give you something to focus on that doesn't require mental effort in order to distract you from thoughts that do.

Thanks for replying Dolphin! : D Thats good to know. I didn't realize it was because of the t.v. keeping people up. XDNow I dont feel so bad for using it. But Ill still try sleeping without t.v. Just on ruff nights I will switch it on for a while.

When I was younger, the TV pretty much had to be on for me to sleep. Now, I can fall asleep with it on, some what, but I need everything to be off to be the most successful.

I used to need the TV on while going to sleep. Now I use a fan for some background noise, or i listen to audio books. You can find the full the audio book of 'The astral plane, its scenery, inhabitants and phenomena' by C. W. LEAD BEATER and much more on librivox.com if you are interested. And its all free.

Thanks for replying guys. : ) I tend to feel more relaxed with some type of background noise I guess. If everything is completely off I can't help but feel a bit uncomfortable. I have a fan in my room that keeps me cool and it helps. If I listened to a person talking about astral stuff I would get anxious though. ^^"Its not my cup of tea if you know what I mean.

In my early teenage years I often used to regularly have a TV on or listen to something. I don't know if it actually helped me go to sleep, it seemed more of a habit. Later in my life, things gradually changed, and I became more used to just sleeping with no music or sound. I feel they usually tend to distract me too much from actually getting to sleep. However, I always have white noise from the computer fans or an air conditioner or something, and those seem to be very helpful at masking distracting sounds from outside of the room.

The content of the sound seems to play a big role. Something fairly uninteresting to me like a weather broadcast or cooking show would probably not pose as much of a problem with sleep, nor trivial outside sounds like birds or traffic (as long as they're not too loud), but anything that might catch my attention and make me want to listen in is guaranteed to keep me from sleeping when I want to.
