Hands moving while sleeping
Hi all,
It's been a while since I've frequented this forum. I haven't seriously pursued lucid dreaming in a while. I still get the occasional lucid dream but they are not very frequent at all and I have very little dream control.
Maybe 4-5 times in the last 2 months (with increasing frequency) I have woken up during the night to find that my hands are moving on their own. Typically a rubbing rubbing motion with my thumb down and then back up my fingers. Think about if you were trying to use your thumb and index/middle finger to feel the texture of something. That movement except exaggerated. Other than willfully keeping my hands still (not ideal when you're trying to sleep..) the only way to stop the movements are to physically lay on top of my hands.
The previous times this happened I was able to return to sleep fairly quickly and noticed nothing the follow day. Last night they woke me up several times and kept me up for hours. This morning, if I replicated the movement, I feel what I can only describe as minor electrical shock between my finger tips (think of the sensation of licking a 9V battery, minus the taste) that shoots up my forearm if I press harder.
There are more situations/movements/details but I think that the description above summarizes the bulk of the sensation.
Has anyone experienced anything like this before or heard of this happening to someone else? It occurred to me last night that a possible cause could be incomplete sleep paralysis. Like someone whose moves their arm or leg while dreaming and jerks them awake.
Thanks for your attention!
Goose
As an aside, the dream I was having prior to being awakened the first time was a battle/escape type dream with paranoia type overtones. I felt that I was being lied to/pursued and was responding violently. In hindsight, my pursuers were actually quite calm. It was me that was raising the intensity of the situation.
