For about the past two weeks a couple hours after I wake up or right when I wake up I'm struck with a headache. It's not a migraine and it's not too severe but annoying and discomforting.

I googled it really quick and there is a couple possibilities but one I found interesting was at this site. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.f...t_uids=16298494

Frequent and recurrent migraine headaches can, over time, pose the additional risks of stroke, brain damage, heart failure and attention deficit. This is why prevention should always be a part of the treatment. Nitric oxide supersensitivity is the hypothesis upon which this model is based. Its role in causing migraine headaches and chronic morning headaches can be triggered by both normal and abnormal characteristics of the sleep cycle and more specifically by the release of nitric oxide that occurs towards the end of the sleep cycle. Stress and the age-related loss of sleep continuity, together with the corresponding increase in cortisol levels, potentiate delta rebound. Delta rebound results in deeper sleep intensity. It is associated with increased nitric oxide production. Increased delta rebound then causes an increase in the amount and duration of nitric oxide release at night. Migraineurs are susceptible to migraine headaches because they are supersensitive to nitric oxide. The diurnal pattern of the incidence of sleep-related headaches in a subset of the general population is caused by the effect of nitric oxide supersensitivity during the sleep cycle. The proposed treatment is for both sleep-related migraine headaches and chronic morning headaches. It consists of melatonin and moclobemide taken during the night, close the end of the sleep cycle so as to achieve the maximum concentrations. Both melatonin and moclobemide affect three important aspects of sleep-related headaches: nitric oxide supersensitivity, stress system dysfunction and sleep pathology. Both melatonin and moclobemide have demonstrated effectiveness in preventing migraine headaches. Additionally, both melatonin and moclobemide are compatible with most of the other therapeutic agents used to prevent migraine headaches and with at least 1 therapeutic agent that is used to treat migraine headaches.[/b]
So I'm trying to figure out if this has anything to do with me waking up and trying to write my dreams down. I've been doing it since July 5th but only with the last two weeks has this been happening. Another explanation pointed to depression and anxiety disorders but I feel pretty good. A little anxious about school and if I'll ever find a major to keep but I've been getting on track this year a lot more than the last. But really I've been in a worse state.

I sometimes wake up with a migraine, I don't think I'm going to get a stroke, and me brain don't think me damage. Sometimes changes in sleep cycles cause headaches, like waking upp too early or too late. Or sometimes when I lie still for a long time and then get up I get a migraine. Maybe when you wake up try and get up instead of just laying there (like I do). Maybe changes in your food? Because some food causes headaches. Like if they were selling macaroni and cheese by the ton and you buy it and you been having that everyday that may be causing headaches.

Interesting, that might be it. Since school has started again, I wake up a different time almost everyday. And I have been hitting the snooze.

I don't know about big medical problems, but changes in sleep schedule is one potential suspect, as is dehydration.

Try drinking a big glass of water before going to bed. You may have to get up in the night to relieve yourself, but if your headaches are from dehydration, that should help some.

I often get these too. It feels like it's stuck on only one side of my head though. It seems to be directly proportional to sleep deprivation/catch-up for me, so I guess its like that. Kinda like when your eyes hurt after sleeping for hours and hours, I guess :3

Weird. I have them randomly... maybe once each 2 months. It usually happens when I wake up a lot earlier than I'm supposed to, and lasts until I fall asleep again (doh).
However, it won't end if I stay in bed. On the contrary, if I get up it'll end pretty quick, but if I stay in bed then it'll just keep hammering my head 'till I fall back asleep.

Do you take b6? I heard, and have experienced taking high doses of b6 and wake up with a headache.

I often wake up with splitting headaches, though they haven't come as often lately as they used to. The only thing I can figure is that they are stress-related.

I'm not sure if this is related or not, but when I get up after lying down for a long time ( watching a movie, reading, sleeping etc) then I will get a pounding headche for a few seconds. ALong with these ehadaches comes a blackout, where everything si black and I can't see.

Who me? Certainly not! On average, I have 1 glass of hot chocolate/hot cider (cider has no caffine though) once every 2 days. I never have tea or coffee. I love chocolate though,b ut that has very little.

oh, that was directed to dyer maker but I can tell you about what your experiencing is you might be dehydrated when you wake up. another thing you can do is get up slow, lay in bed for a while with your eyes open, don't rush yourself up because that almost always causes me a headache along with a black out
