One of my friends has been having problems sleeping. In October after he failed his Calculas quiz, he started having problems with his sleeping. He started falling asleep quite frequently. In class and even during dinner. Sometimes when I am chatting with him online, he goes silent. The next day, I find out he has fallen asleep during the conversation.

Our Conversation

LivingLegend825: i think it first occurred when i failed my calculus quiz
wisiafantasydom: which was when?
LivingLegend825: 10?
LivingLegend825: october?
LivingLegend825: *shrug*
wisiafantasydom: *nods*
wisiafantasydom: after that...it started occuring how frequently>?
wisiafantasydom: did it hit you gradually?
LivingLegend825: crap! fell asleep again!
LivingLegend825: ehhh
LivingLegend825: its mostly at nighttime after i work
LivingLegend825: when i lay on my bed and chat
LivingLegend825: i fall asleep
wisiafantasydom: what about in class?
LivingLegend825: due to idleness of the person im talking to
wisiafantasydom: >_<
LivingLegend825: in class, lol...the teacher's just too boring
LivingLegend825: ex. spanish and history
LivingLegend825: i fell asleep whilei was EATING yesterday

He says he gets four to six hours of sleep. So, is he just sleep deprived or what? O_o I'm concerned about him and his health. What would you advise for him to do?

EDIT: I started a conversation with him at 1:30PM today...now it is 3:10Pm...during that time he fell asleep about 8-9 times, while we were talking...

This is not normal and is very concerning. Has he had this problem his whole life or only recently? He should be examined by a physician to rule out conditions such as narcolepsy. It could be dangerous if he is driving and falls asleep.

Good - I hope everything turns out okay for him. Best of luck!
