Thumbs up

Occasionally (perhaps once every other month) I have these incredibly vivid dreams, ending with me flying out of a car and into cement, jet packeting off an escalator straight for the floor, falling off a skyscraper when a set of stairs give way, and other falling or rapid-speed dreams. I fling awake, raging hot and sweating profusely, maybe like some of you guys do for nightmares... But it's different for me. When I wake up, the Rapid Eye Movement associated with this sleep cycle continues in my waking hours for several minutes, usually with my eyes rolling upward. I clench to my bed as tight as I can, but my eyes won't stop any sooner. I begin to vomit with intensity that is directly correlated to whenever my eyesight goes back to normal (the more time it takes, the more often I vomit, and the worse I feel throughout the day). I never want to move, and my body gets hot and cold flashes. This has been with me ever since I was... Eight? I had a minor episode today, which is what brought this up in the first place.

Does anyone have a clue what this is?

Well, the falling sensation that you feel is called a hypnic jerk. (that's probably spelled wrong) Everyone's had that happen before. But the rest, I'm not sure. Maybe there's a medical term for it on Web MD. I haven't been there in a while, but I'm sure there's a place there where you can type in your symptoms. They're pretty accurate.

Hope I helped you out some. It sounds like torture. I use to have extreme dizzy spells while trying to go to sleep when I was little. I sometimes have them now, but they only seem to happen when I'm PMSing....

It sounds to me like you could work around the problem by keeping your eyes closed, maybe even going back into the dream and waking up properly. (Dream Reentry Lucid?) I'm just speculating. To get back into the dream in such a situation, you would probably have to practice with more ordinary dream reentry.
Ten years without a dream, now starting almost from scratch.

We're messing with our bodies on a very low level here - can we break them? What will it take to hurt ourselves?

A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.
