I've noticed that one of my primary problems is that it often takes me over an hour to fall asleep, even when I'm quite tired. I find one position, find it's not comfortable after five minutes, flip, adjust things, flip, adjust, flip... It really makes it hard to try any Ld induction tecnhiques that involve repeating things over and over again...

Last night, I tried a triple-threat combination of a massive Dance Dance Revolution session an hour before bed, a cup of warm milk with honey, and soft acoustic guitar music. That shaved my fall-asleep time down to about 20 minutes...

Anyone know of anything quicker than that (without the use of medications or programs that require an MP3 player or a computer with CD-burning capabilities) that I can try?

That used to happen to me alot, I think it was because I was really stressed out. I don't think think DDR is going to help you fall asleep. Lol, I read somewhere that doing physical exercise before you go to sleep keeps you awake longer. When i can't sleep, i read and if im really into the book then my dreams sometimes have to do with whatever the story is about. Thats all the advice I have! Sorry can't be of more help.

I sometimes have the same problem with taking longer than an hour to fall asleep. I reccommend valerian though.

However what you can do is try progressive muscle relaxation in bed, which means tensing and relaxing all your muscles all the way down to your toes. Tense for 10 seconds, relax for 20 seconds (clench fists, release; squeeze biceps, release, triceps; shoulders, and so forth). Also you can concentrate on your breath. One thing that you should NOT do, is dont think about trying to fall asleep or how long passed or whatever. If you dont care and are not trying to fall asleep you will fall asleep.

I'll try doing progressive muscle relaxation tonight. Also...

Mom showed up with a CD of Benedictine monk chants and says, "If this doesn't put you to sleep, I don't know what will..." (Now why the heck we had a CD full of monk chants in the first place is a puzzle for all time.)

I have the same problem. It's really hard for me to fall asleep if I dont have some sort of white noise in the backround. I usually like to sleep on my couch with the tv on low volume rather than my bed.
