      A suggestion for insomniacs

An idea for people who have trouble falling a sleep:
You know it's often hard to stay awake during lectures, especiely if the lecturer monotonously speaks in a dry voice, and the topic is boring.
Well how about download a Text to Speech software, and make it read to you some boring text file that create by copying text from user-manuals, wikipedia articles etc.
You can make it go on in a loop, or just for long enough to allow you to fall a sleep.
A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service
and compassion are the things which renew humanity.

Good idea. You can learn something too.

Now how about the opposite problem: how to stay awake during boring talks?

It is impossible. It may be easier to learn to fall a sleep with your eyes open, so that it will look like you are awake....

Your eyeballs could get dried out; also REM may freak other people out. Maybe paint eyes onto your eyelids?

      Take sleeping pills?

      - It seems to mess with our minds.

Try coffee, and loads of it.

Coffee's good to stay awake during lectures, but then there's another problem, if you drink lots of coffee and the caffeine makes your system work at a faster pace, what do you do when you need to go to the bathroom during the lecture?

To help me get to sleep I take melatonin [worst case scenario] or drink warm milk before bed [somehow it actually works O.o]

I find that it's hardest for me to fall asleep in total silence. I'll lay in bed thinking about the most trival things and reliving something I had done in the past or whatever comes to mind. One thing leads to another and I can't seem to shut my brain off long enough to go to sleep. I've even found myself to rewrite past dreams. It's been this way ever since I was in high school. I used to turn the radio on loud enough to hear it, but not too loud it would wake me up. Now I just turn the tv on and find a movie I've seen a billion times so I'm not tempted to watch it. I set the tv timer to go off a couple hours after I lay down to give myself plenty of time to fall asleep. I'd leave it on all night, but my fiance complains. He says it messes with his dreams. It sometimes influences mine too, but I always stay away from horror movies so they don't turn into nightmares.

Here's a question: what effect do you think TV commercials have on your waking life shopping behaviour?

I say turn on some good music instead of the TV. I don't own one, because it's a mindnumbing zombie activity. Besides, the programs are made for idiots.

How I discover what my dreams are about

In my last lucid dream I made pink sparks between my palms. I was trying to make a white ball of energy...

So do you turn it off once the good show is over?

Or do you keep staring at the moving pictures?

I also have trouble sleeping in silence, at least most of the time. That's why I leave my fan running every night, whether it's winter or summer. That white noise is very helpful for me to get to sleep, but I wonder if maybe it presents a distraction when I attempt to WILD. It's far too hot right now to turn my fan off for a whole night, but I'll experiment once it gets cooler again.

      my bf had insomnia

my bf had insomnia years ago and went to see a psychologist who told him to do something. he then told me to do it when i started suffering from it. at a certain time of the day e.g 9pm take of your watch, turn around your alarm clock, etc...make sure you can not see the time anywhere. go sit somewhere and read a book, or watch tv etc. until you fall asleep. the reason behind this is that if you see that it's midnight and ur still not sleeping...you start stressing that you have to get up in 6 hrs..5 hr..4 hrs etc which actually just keeps you awake longer.
