      Lucid Dreaming and Self Hypnosis?

Though I have not actually yet mastered the technique of lucid dreaming, I have aready reaped some of its benefits; I presume that not everyone will agree with me on this subject.

For a couple of years, I've had the ability to sense when I am in a dream, though despite becoming aware, I rarely take advantage and normally allow the dream to carry on as normal (Why I do this, I don't know). However, events have happened in my dreams that have altered my view on certain things; I will give you the most life-changing dream that has happened, along with what it changed.

When I was 15, I used to be somewhat of an abject coward, lacking any self-confidence whatsoever and used to lead a bad lifesytle (Though not as bad as self mutilation or intaking psychotropic drugs, but a prelude that includes self hating, disconnection from others, etc). I used to occasionally have nightmares that include being chased by a malefic and horrific creature (Though humanoid in appearence, was bulky, along with a sadistic personality), I normally spend the duration of the dream running away from it, normally hiding, but somehow beyond all reason still being discovered, forced to run away again. This carried on until one time during the nightmare, I realised that I was dreaming, thought I did nothing initially there came a point where I figured out that it could not hurt me, so I ran into a house, into a kitchen and picked up a meat cleaver, I waited for it to come inside. It came closer towards me, and I buried the cleaver deep into this chest and pulled it back out. The creature fell to the floor and I raised the cleaver, and executed it by cutting its head off. After that I woke up; I found that all the things I had previously feared had vanished. It took a few months for me to become more confident, but shortly before I had turned 16 I was a changed person, I wasn't afriad of anything or anyone and I knew I could then go to seeing that I reached my potential, making sure that no one got in my way.
I found that lucid dreaming had turned my life around, I was no longer a target for bullies and thuggish people, I had started to gain better academic results (Highest mark in my engineering course), started to become more adept in my hobbies, and the list goes on. To put things short, I had developed a strong sense of self confidence.

Though the story may seem deep and far-fetched, this is indeed what happened in detail.

To conclude, my question is "Can Lucid dreaming be directly used to change your personaility?"

      Edit:- Change for incoherence

      Hey Welome to DreamViews.

I think that lucid dreaming can definately change your personality. I havn't had many LDs but if I start to get better then I will definately use it to change me as far as tring new things and not being afraid. There are so many things I'd like to do that if I did them in a LD I wouldn't be afraid to do in real life. I think that a great change of life is inevitable but some people die before they have theirs. Eventually something will happen to everyone to make them see new light, and I think that a dream or lucid dream could very possibly be that.
