I hear voices!
Ok well whenever I;m really sleepy and I lay in bed for a few minutes I start to hear voices. Its like these voices are right beside me. But I only hear them for a second at a time. Also when I hear them I feel different. I feel like I might be in a deeper state of sleep. Because once they go away I feel more awake then go right back into it again.
If this is some step into doing some technique then please tell me how I could use this to my advantage at gaining LDs!

That's normal, so to speak. It's akin to hypnagogic imagery (HI), called hynagogic audio hallucinations (or simply hypnagogic audio).
This can be useful as a first step towards sleep paralysis (SP). And SP can be a gateway into a successful WILD, leading you straight into an LD.
So yes, go with it and try not to disrupt it by moving or worrying and keep your mind "gently" focused on having a lucid dream and you may well find yourself smack dab in the middle of a one. The key is to remain as relaxed and limp as you can possibly be and let it carry you away.

Yeah I know what you mean, when I was younger, I would hear every single voice or sound that I heard during the day or even the days before. Running through my head while I'm falling asleep. It used to be a fustration to me because most of the time I would hear the voices calling my name, and I would wake up. Just to remember that, that paticular voice did call my name during the day in the same manner. It was like a sound review of the day. I didn't like it also becuase I didn't fall asleep or into a dream state until the whole process was finished, and if you would pay close attention to the sounds or voices you would become awakend, fustrating times. I dont know how it went away, I guess during the years I started working, I got tired more and wanted rest really bad, not caring about the voices. Just give it time, it might go away. Or dont let it bother you.

Are you familiar with (HI) - Hypnagogic images?
Many people are fooled to believe that they can or are only images. They can also be audio in nature. Sounds. Voices.
You can use the same techniques as you would for images as you would the voices that you are hearing.

yea that happens to me sometimes too. its normally whispers and freaks me out because i think people are trying to sneak up on me. glad to hear its normal. :D

I get voices all the time during hypnagogic imagery. I find it very fascinating, I love it. Just the other night I heard a voice say "HI!" It felt as if someone in my mind knew I was listening. I also get many other sounds as well. Music is a common one. And as Oneironaught explained, you can stay relaxed and follow the sounds you hear, into a dream scene fully conscious. You may experience some very strange sensations along the way, but thats all normal too. So don't worry about those either, just enjoy the ride!

The sounds don't bother me at all. I quite like them...

This is a curious site if I've ever seen one... I had a simple question, googled for an answer - and... I'll have to read more tomorrow when it isn't so late.
But yeah - I've noticed recently I've become more aware of these "voices" that just kind of crop up as I'm about to fall asleep... You know, you're still technically awake, but just barely... I couldn't give an example of something they say - but it is usually totally irrelevant and nonsensical... or meaningful, but just completely random.
And it's not exactly the best question to ask people... "is it normal to hear voices?"
I do think these tend to snowball into vivid, and strange dreams at times... usually the types of dreams that are believable enough that you think they're actually happening... for example, a really weird day at work....

I have also had these, and I can actually make them come by focusing on hearing them. The problem is, they tend to mock or taunt me, and they make me laugh with some of the things they say, which makes it harder to fall asleep so I haven't been encouraging them lately. May well do now!

I get them too. I actually had this happen two nights ago. It helps with going into WILD for me though I've haven't mastered it yet. I do enjoy hearing the voices as I go to sleep, i wish they would come around more.

This happens to me a lot, but occasionally, (about once every 3, 4, or 5 months) I'm just about to fall asleep, and I hear some unknown voice SCREAM my name really loud, and with near perfect clarity, and it shocks me out of sleep.

I forgot to mention that most of the voices of people I hear are of people talking about confirmation numbers, personal booking codes, and reservations, as I work in a call center, and make reservations for Kimpton hotels.

Hey, I was going through my old post and I found my own thread that is related to this thread when I asked about almost the same question when I was hearing voices when falling asleep.
