if a person has been on the receiving-end of longterm forced sleep deprivation, is there any way of recuperating from the health consequences of it?
It will help if you elaborate a little more and explain to us which problems you ( or the person you are talking about ) is facing.
In general, the body has a capacity of healing almost all conditions. Good, healthy nutrition, good sleep, and good balanced state of mind ( no stress, to much anger, negative thoughts etc ) can go a long way towards healing your mind and body.
Yeah, at the very least, HOW long term? (and really a specific description would help too).
I've heard that just sleeping after a long-term sleep deprivation will help. Personally, I've gone 3 days straight and then I started hallucinating...I eventually just sat on a couch and near-instantly fell asleep.

i got insomnia from stress during my major exams and i havent slept for 13 days
and yeh at about day 8 hallucination starts and thats really not a good thing
its sometimes funny, when you think back on it
like when i was watching fight club while under insomnia
i didnt know what the hell was happening, i kept seeing brad pit talking to edward norton and then i turn to the side - and pit is standing in my room looking at me
and he goes - what you want to do is look over there [as he points to the tv, where he is talking lol]
ahaha not to mention the last lil flash clip as the buildings explode [haha not wanting to ruin it for everyone who hasnt seen the movie] rofl i kept on rewinding and pausing to se whether i need to see a doctor the following morning, or to have sex with a girl, or to crack up laughin

Simple as it may sound, just give yourself a few nights of 8 hr sleep to regulate your body
