      Strange sensation when falling asleep

Well, this happens a few times each year. Last time it occured was a few days ago. The last time it happened I was home, I was really tired and I wanted to get some sleep and it was afternoon. The night before I only slept about 3-4 hours. Anyway, when I was about to fall asleep I heard a loud noise, really loud and I couldn't move and this happened everytime I tried to sleep. Like, 5 times. Then I started the TV and when I tried again, it worked.

So, my question is: What happened to me and what can I do to prevent it?

Thanks in advance, and I hope I posted this in the right forum.

Search on: "sleep paralysis" and you will find many of the same stories

I won't go into too much detail, because there are many many articles about SP, but it happens when your body falls asleep before your mind does.

Triggers can be: extreme tiredness, lack of sleep and stress. Also, it happens more often when you sleep on your back.

If you want to avoid it, avoid the lack of sleep, sleep on your side or better, on your stomach. I've also read some scientific articles that mention vitamins or medication to prevent it, but I forgot the names.

But, SP can be used to enter a lucid dream, so it can be very useful
