Going to bed angry and SP?

Without turning this into a huge rant, I am going through a really crummy breakup right now and had a fight with my ex last night before going to sleep. I was nothing short of in a rage, but also exhausted. I tried to take some relaxing breaths, but to no avail - my heart was racing and I couldn't get it to stop. I figured I would just lie there with my heartbeat thudding in my ears and close my eyes. Eventually I got so tired that I felt sleep paralysis start to set in, but was never able to fully transition into the dream world. I started to see some farm scenery and other images, and said to myself "I am going to dream now" I tried to passively focus on bringing myself further into the pictures, but couldn't and eventually everything went black again. I stayed in this weird state between waking and actually sleeping until I heard my alarm go off for work this morning. No dreams, no nothing. I was just sort of there, with a dormant mind. I also, sadly, woke up still furious. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? What happened?

Also does anyone have a sure-fire method for calming down aside from a sedative? lol.
I still feel like screaming at the top of my lungs right now, but unfortunately cannot do so at work!

So you know what happened, what are you asking...

      sure-fire method for calming down...?
Why you are so sure you need a method to do this?
And whats that - sure-fire method?
And how do you know, there can be any such methods?
I just dont understand, who you want to calm down, you ex or yourself?

Sorry, I should clarify - physically that entire time my body had SP, but once I couldn't focus on the images anymore my mind went blank. I think I was like that for several hours, I can't really say - my alarm jolted me out of whatever it was. Maybe I was dreaming of having SP? I don't know(I feel pretty unrested)...which is why I asked if anyone has experienced something similar. It was eerie and unpleasant.

Sure-fire means something that works almost all the time. And I wish to calm myself down, of course. I wouldn't really like this to happen again...

No need to be cheeky, roguext22.

I agree. roquex22, there are ways to reply to a posting when someone is asking for help. If you wish clarification, respectfully ask for it.. no need to be rude simply because you don't understand someone.

TinfoilStar, I don't have a clear answer other than I'm sure your mental state affected your dream state. I could hazard a guess and say that your mental stress/anger/etc. probably hindered your mind from sleeping/dreaming but your body needed the physical rest so you ended up in that kind of "limbo".

As far as a "surefire" method for calming down.. I don't really have one. I do know that I try very hard not to argue anytime before bed as I KNOW I won't sleep and that I'll simply replay the argument over and over in my mind.

If you can go somewhere safe - do it. Better still, take someone with you who you trust and ask them to be with you while you express yourself. They don't have to do anything other than to just be with you. If you know someone else can tolerate it, it would be easier for you to tolerate it too.

Failing that, don't try and fix yourself. Not with any sedative nor any techniques. Just sit or lie with the anger and don't fight it. Feel it. Welcome it. If you can, talk to it (sounds mad, but it's a technique known as focusing - lots on the web about that).
