      Waking too Early

For the last week or two, on and off, I find that I wake up much too early. I don't wake fully, but I have enough awareness to roll over and look at the clock, and it's always somewhere between 4 AM and 6 AM. Normally, I wake up around seven, which is quite early for me, so these early wakings are really starting to tire me out. They seem to be getting better, but I was wondering: has anyone had this before? And if so, what can be done about it?

I have the opposite of your problem.

You have trouble falling asleep again afterwards? Seems like this would be good for dreaming. A forced WBTB. This is abnormal for your traditional sleep cycle? Its not a normal mid-night/ early morning awakening?

Have you changed anything in your eating or drinking? I know I wake up around 4 with my heart racing if I drink too much (alcohol) before bed.

Well, the problem seems to be clearing up now, but when I would wake up early, I would usually have so much trouble getting back to sleep (and I would only wake up within a few hours of the time I normally wake up) that I never properly got back to sleep again. It would have been nice to try a WBTB, but I was usually too out of it.

As for changes in diet, I can't think of anything, really. I don't drink, and I don't eat anything before bed. For a while, I thought it might be sleep apnea (my mother has it), but as the problem seems to be clearing up, and I don't feel tired all the time anymore, I guess not. I did, however, stop taking my multivitamin a couple of weeks ago.
