      Unhappy Weird sleep disorder?

      Hi, I'm new here. 15. Name's Fabio.

      So I have this sleeping problem... it's hard to explain, and I'm not all too good at explaining anything either, but I'll try.

      I never feel tired anymore. I don't mean I never sleep, I mean I literally never FEEL tired. Ever. I go to bed FEELING wide awake while I know my body is tired. It's like I shut off for 6-7 hours and turn back on... like I just close my eyes and suddenly, it's morning. I HATE IT. I've dealt with it for almost a full year now. I miss just passing out on the bed at 2:00 in the morning with the clothes I wore to school on a friday night, totally drowsy. I miss waking up feeling tired (as weird as it sounds). I miss waking up feeling totally refreshed! Now I just kind of close my eyes, sometimes wake up feeling hot AND ALWAYS WIDE AWAKE, close my eyes again, then open them because it's morning.

      That's another thing, I would wake up hot frequently. I'd go to bed feeling normal (not so cold, not so hot. A bit under "warm") and just wake up feeling hot. I can't sleep without the AC being on and set to 72 or under... and even THEN I still sometimes wake up feeling hot.

      There are some small advantages I could say. Since I never actually feel tired, I could sleep short hours and make it through the day wide awake. So I could do a rush a project at night till like 3 or 4 and sleep till 6:40. I'd feel totally awake, just with a "dry" feeling, mostly on my face.

      Also, I guess I'd be lieing if I said I NEVER feel tired anymore. There are rare occasions where I actually would. Like if I sleep for 2 hours as stated above. It's only a small awkward amount of sleepyness. So to boost it, I take a good warm bath. I don't know why, but then I'm in there, I started yawning like crazy. I actually start feeling really tired and sometimes almost fall asleep! But, when I finally get out, I'm feeling as tired/awake as I was before I even jumped in the bath. Just a little bit more tired. Think of it like:

      "DROWSYNESS LEVEL 1-10" (7 being the normal feeling of drowsyness)
      Normal = 1 - 2
      Deprived = 3 - 4
      Bath = +4
      End of Bath = -3

      So if I deprived myself of sleep and my "drowsyness level" was 4 AND I took a bath, it would be to 8. Above normal, totally fine. But as soon as I get out, it drops to 5 and I feel more awake. How's that for some math?

      But even if I do all that, when I wake up in the middle of the night/morning, I STILL feel wide awake like I got no sleep at all. No feeling refreshed, no feeling like I just slept, just feeling like lump of crap. So I guess you could say the 'never' part is feeling like I just got a good rest, feeling refreshed and ready to start the next day. Man do I miss it so much.

      Theres a bit more to tell, but I'll save it since there's so much in here already. Oh, I guess lastly I should say that it started during the end or so of 2007 summer. I killed my sleep schedule and ruined my internal clock pretty bad I'm sure. Anyways...

      Any suggestions on how to deal with it/classifying what disorder it is, is GREATLY appreciated!

      My first peice of advice is that you go to the doctors if this is troubling you.

      My second peice of advice is that you shouldn't ask unqualified people on forums to diagnose you. We could be anyone.

      My third peice of advice is that this might be something that will pass as you get older. For now, maybe you just have an excess of energy. Excercising and looking at your diet might help.

      Ah thanks for the suggestion. I didn't really mean for anyone to diagnose it, I just wanted a few thoughts on what it could be if it is something.

      I have this same problem, I use drugs like sleeping pills and cough syrup...I know it's not healthy but I need to sleep.
      You can use tylonal sleep aid, it works good and doesn't hurt the body like asprin.

      Good luck bud.

      I kind of want to avoid using any medication, but I'll still keep that in mind, thanks.

      Fabio, it's a "problem" many would envy. Clearly you need the sleep and although you don't feel sleepy, at least you don't lie awake trying to sleep, you can switch to sleep at will.
      First off, do exercise but not too near bedtime.
      Secondly, decide how much sleep you need and do your "switch off" at the appropriate time.
      And third, once you are ready to sleep, do some deep relaxation startig with your toes and ending with your neck. Then picture a silver movie screen with a black dot in the middle. Let the black dot expand until it fills the screen. At this point you should feel sleepy. This has the same effect as the bath, but you don't have to get up as you do with the bath. Sweet dreams!

      I used a whole bottle and now I am sad because I can't fall asleep fast enough and can't stay asleep.
      Maybe it isn't healthy that I used the whole bottle...egh.

      So I'm not the only one experiences this! This happens to me too, although I always thought it was my medication dehydrating me. Considering that you have the problem too, now I realize it could be something else. I've noticed that this happens when I have lots of crowded thoughts in my head that swarm busily in my mind, and then my mind *slowly* constructs them into a dream that at first I didn't realize was even taking place, until it grows into strange unstructured story that incorporates all of my current anxieties. I don't call it a "nightmare" because it's not really scary, just tiring. It also seems really "gray" with the only part really becoming anywhere close to vivid being the end. The whole thing feels like a trance instead of sleep. After the end, I gradually awaken, with the tiring thoughts remaining in my head a short while after I wake up. Then they fade off. This is the point that I feel all hot and sweaty. I usually go drink a lot of water afterward because I feel very hot and dehydrated.

      Sorry to get off topic with that story, I just hoped maybe my story my help you. My advice would be to make sure you aren't thinking about much while you are going to bed, whether the thoughts are anxious or not. This should help with the "blink-eye sleeps" and the hot spells. You could do this by breathing deeply and slowly while relaxing your body and listening to low profile music. The music gives you a little distraction to pay attention to in order to slow the carousel of thoughts in your head down. That's what I do anyway. It's a good habit to practice meditation and slow down your thoughts, you might be surprised at how much "quieter" your mind can get. I believe there's some tutorials on bed-time relaxation and meditation in the tutorials section. If you don't want to take drugs, a very healthy way to help you relax is to drink tea like "sleepy time tea," or chamomile tea, or "organic nighty night tea" before you go to bed. All these are just herbs so you don't have to worry about side effects and dependency.

      Hope that helps some. I am by no means a doctor so if you still have problems get professional help for them.

      Hey Fabio, do u live in michigan cuz I have a cousin that knows you!

      As for the diagnosis, believe it or not it may be a good thing because it seems like your brain is getting more nutrients than your body.

      I'd love to take some of that "never feel tired" off your hands! I feel ridiculously sleepy 95% of the time.

      As for feeling hot on waking up; The number one cause of that for me is sleeping with the lights on. Insufficient sleep will also make me feel hot.

      I have a friend who has that problem and she just can't sleep at all. It sounds just like what she has, but her's is genetic. She has to take medication just so she can go to bed, and sleep. Maybe you should go ask a doctor, I'm sure they can find out. You might be missing something in your cycle, or my friend said that her's had something to do with not enough sleeping hormones.

      That's crazy, Omen! Is there anything that relaxes you? I know for me, I love laying in front of the television for an hour or two just when I'm getting tired. I can then pass out in front of the tv if I want to (but I usually get up and go to bed). It helps make me drowsy.
      Not that I really have a problem or anything. I just have to be real drowsy to fall asleep. I used to be an insomniac but not anymore! Still feel tired a lot during the day though.
