Have had problems sleeping last few nights when thinking about LDing

Hi all,

Over the past couple of days I have been making a real concious effort to think alot about lucid dreaming and do reality checks whenever I can.

However the past couple of nights I have had a real problem getting to sleep and haven't been able to remember any of my dreams. Usually I can remember at LEAST one of my dreams, two nights ago I was able to remember 6.

However for some reason I go to bed hopeful that I will LD and don't fall asleep till about 3 hours later (I normally have very little problem falling asleep). Once I do fall asleep I normally wake up again soon after and have trouble falling asleep again.

I have experimented a few days ago with trying to WILD from being wide awake, and have gotten to the point where my body feels very very relaxed and in a fake SP. Last night this is exactly what I felt, it was like my body wanted to go to sleep but my mind wouldn't let it.

As I said I could also not for the life of me remember even a single dream which is very frustrating!

Hi there, I just retuned to DV forum and restarted my dream jurnal yesterday and I had the same problem as you. I think it's called anxiety.

I had trouble falling asleep when I got to bed and woke up after first dream as I did some autosugestion early in the night. After I wrote it down I couldn't sleep anymore. I was too happy that the autosugestion to wake up after every dream had worked. After that I was just too nervous and anxious to get to sleep that I couldn't let go and relax.

I think we need to be moderate about the desire to LD. Too much counscious effort can hurt our results.

You're probably too excited about the prospect of LDing, and you're thinking a bit too much about it. To get to sleep, you have to "relax" your mind. Too much active thinking and anticipation about dreaming will keep you up.

im getting the same problem..... but i think part of it is my bed... it kinda sinks in one spot and i move around too much... so like more blood is pumping in my brain and waking me up.... and my sleeping pattern is all messed up to.. i dont get tired till like 3 in the morning... and im constantly thinking the most random things ever!.... probably cus of my A,D,D but w/e... iv been taking some melatonin to help sleep and it works sometimes.... i havent used it in the last week so w/e... but lately i cant remember any of my dreams...

Yeah, I thought I was the only one having this problem. Lately Ive been having hell of a hard time going to sleep and staying asleep. I cant even get a full 8 hours of sleep anymore. And fow the past few day, I cant seem to remember/recall a single dream! But I also got some melatonin yesterday, however Im definitely gonna have to take double the recommended dose b/c the regular dose I took didnt work too well last night.:P

i got the extra strenght tablets. (5MG)... it took me 2 of em to knock me out last time

Yeah so do I. I had the 3 mg capsules last time but now I have the 5 mg tablets. I only took one of them yesterday and it didnt do too much so Ill try 2 of them tonight; hopefully Ill have some nice, vivid (or lucid) dreams to go along with a good night's sleep!

I had that same problem...what worked for m though obviously won't work for everyone. i downloaded that yoga nidra mp3 file. it is very relaxing. I went right to sleep after listening to it. It is like 45 min. long, but its better than lying awake and anxious for 3 hours.

Past couple of nights I have been able to get to sleep fine and remember my dreams.

It was exactly what I was thinking about LDing way too much. When I go to bed I just do some relaxation exercises (i think this is important to stop my mind from wandering too much) and then just tell myself I will do a reality check in my dream and realise I'm lucid (I have only been able to get to 5 before i drifted off).

Besides melatonin you could also use 5-HTP which lasts a little longer than melatonin.
Melatonin and 5-HTP suppress REM sleep and promote for deep, dreamless sleep, hopefully to get the REM rebound effect by morning.

I was thinking about buying 5-HTP when I saw it at the store the other day! I just wasnt sure if that was the supplement that was listed her in DV (I thought it was called 5-HTTP:P)... Oh well, Ill try it next time, thanks for the advice!:)

I also Take some galantamine and choline at 4 am to really kick the REM rebound into double high gear!

I only do this about 2 or 3 times a week though so my body don't get used to the stuff.

I see, I know I messed up when I started taking melatonin everyday, in spite of knowing that it could be habit-forming (which in my case, was).

But I will definitely try galantamine and choline once I get my sleeping schedule back on track!

that happened to me before, if i got to excited about lding it would backfire.

i stopped telling myself that i would ld before going to bed ect.

i just let it happen naturally now.

but this is me, and you are you. so this may or not work for you.

I'm currently having this same problem, I think too much when trying to go to sleep. My body is definitely tired enough for me to fall asleep, but my mind won't let me. I'm going to try not actively thinking about anything but my breathing and see if that helps. Right now, I just lay in bed for way too long, trying too hard to sleep.

I actually had the same problem once. I had never ot been able to sleep. Now that you mention it,I remeber the problem occurred mostly when I used to use the focus on my breathing technique.


It eventually passed. I haven't used the focus on my breathing technique since.
